Unfair pricing: Chiang Mai shooting game stall shut down - video

A shooting game stall at the Chiang Mai Winter Fair has been permanently closed following complaints of misleading pricing. A Facebook user recounted an experience where a price misunderstanding led to demands for an inflated payment of 1,200 baht. The event organisers have intervened and ended the stall’s operations.

 

The incident began when Benjawan, a 26 year old resident of Mae Taeng district, visited the fair with five friends on Wednesday, January 8. They were drawn to a slingshot shooting game offering prizes. Upon enquiring, a female employee quoted a price of 20 baht per set, containing 30 slingshot pellets. The group purchased two sets for a total of 40 baht.

 

After finishing their game, they were surprised when the same employee asked for 1,200 baht, explaining that each pellet cost 20 baht. This led to a dispute, as the group believed they were paying per set, not per pellet. The employee pointed them to a small, barely visible sign indicating the actual pricing.

 

 

Refusing to pay the unexpected amount, the group called the stall owner, who explained the employee was new and the pricing miscommunication was unintentional. The group reported the incident to the police present at the event, who promised to investigate the matter.

 

The Facebook post generated numerous comments from others who had encountered similar situations, though they noted the absence of intimidation at this particular stall. The post served as a warning to others attending the fair to be cautious of pricing discrepancies.

 

Subsequently, event organisers, informed by the Chiang Mai province, confirmed they had received complaints and inspected the area. The decision was made to close the slingshot stall and prevent it from reopening. Organisers also warned other vendors at the fair, stating that any further instances of customer exploitation would result in the revocation of their operating permits, reported KhaoSod.

Allowed, simply because as all Thais know foreigners are visited at birth in hospital and given a platinum credit card and an account full of cash that is frequently topped up by the angels above for a lifetime.

Yep, son married his uni sweetheart, lovely Thai lady. Her brother (who had much earlier become aware that son's father was a farang) caused a scene at the wedding insisting that son must give his new wife a BMW as part of his wedding gifts to new wife.

 

Argument ensured, son at one point said 'I don't have the money to buy a BMW. His now brother in law responded with 'ask your father for more money, he's a farang he has unlimited money every month from Australian govern, same as all Australians.

You're not obligated to pay a person a person if they trick you like this.  The only way this scam works is if you're sheepish and won't speak up.

Thai people are gambling addicts. I bet this woman thought she could sit at her both all night and collect 20 baht per person OR try to hit it big and scam one fool out of 1200. They seriously think this like. How much karma she had built up from temple trips may have been part of her reasoning too.

Brother in law (loud overbearing mid aged gatoey) tried this one even further before his sister and my son had their wedding. 

 

Gatoey went to every member of his / his sisters extended family ( mother, father,  brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces etc) and told them to add their details to a document he had prepared which he intended to give to the Aust. embassy in Bkk so all thee folks would start to get their monthly payment of 50,000Baht per month forever, all because his sister was marrying into a family with a farang in the picture.

 

My son confiscated the document and insisted the gatoey go with my son to every person he had 'signed up' and tell them there is no such payment.

 

Gatoey then contacted a lowlife lawyer, asking the lawyer to help him sue the Aust. embassy because the embassy was stealing their money.

 

Lawyer refused and a few days later gave my son a letter with his signature, one copy to be handed to all on the gatoey's list saying there is no such payment.
