I got up this morning to 11 degrees, it was ffffffff freezing 😀😀

Where I am 8C at 04:30 this morning and the forecast for tomorrow for 5 a.m. is 10C. Quite a breeze too which made it feel lower still. Brrrrr

I.e. making one country cleaner and outsourcing all the dirty production to other countries, with less restrictions, is a stupid idea.

Switching off nuclear power, and then using coal, is a stupid idea.

There are many of those stupid idea. They might look good to some voters locally but cost a fortune and are counterproductive if people would look at the whole world.

In other words, the wealthier first world countries are  simply pushing aside their problems to Somewhere Else(they cannot see): AKA Pollution Export.

The same happening even among the West as well.

While Germany abolished their nuke power stations in 2023 (after Japan's Fukushima Nuclear Disaster in 2011), they started to buy power from their neighbor (France).

Regarding nuclear power generation, once they start it, they will be forever  haunted by its curse (even after its decommissioning).

They need to make sure radioactive toxin won't go outside; have to bury the reactor  under huge amount of concrete.

That process is called sarcophagus which costs astronomical expenses (for the future generations).

It is said to take 100000 years till radiation dose halves...

At the same time, renewable energy technologies aren't almighty either; much less than most people expect.

Its efficiency and reliability are known to be far less than fossil fuel method; unable to generate the same amount of energy year around(depending the area and climate though).

Solar power device is said to break down well before its EPT(energy payback time) is fulfilled.

Mankind seems to be straightly heading for the Dead End by all means.

So many mouths to feed. So much more energy needed. But the available resources are slimming.

And the New Technologies aren't decisive enough.

Unless truly Revolutionary Paradyme Shift in energy and way of life take place.

That is not necessary when there was no catastrophe. In Germany nuclear reactors are part by part dismantled. It is obviously still expensive but different from what you describe.

Personally, my prediction for the world's future is pretty pessimistic.

I am glad I am already old enough not to live another 40-50 years.

Practicing  Minimalist Way of life for many years.

Still, nearly spending 100 times more energy than the man 150 years ago...

Power and water supply round the clock at fingertip.

Able to eat whatever hour it is.

Able to speak to someone on the other end of the world.

Crossing the borders with comfort in the sky.

Benefit of all of the modern conveniences and Environmental Moral Dilemma...

So getting all the fruit and vegetable scraps(uneatable parts) to the rabbits.

Bones to the strays in the street; my Daily Chore.

This way, I can more or less get off the Sense of Guilt to those who have to live another half a century after my death...

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson underscored the gravity of the situation, stating, “Once again, the temperature record has been shattered — 2024 was the hottest year since record-keeping began in 1880.

LOL. 1880 to 2024 is a mere cosmic blink, and nothing to be basing life changing decisions on.

Of course it's been a politically exploited rise of not much at all, and the usual suspects are benefiting financially, so some of us understand what it's really about.

If it was as serious as it is claimed to be, we'd be in a state of emergency, with governments shutting down industry all over the place, but they seem strangely quiet about it, and when certain ex presidents buy waterfront property to retire on one can only assume that they know that it's not going to be under water shortly.

IMO Shakespeare might have been thinking about MMCC when he wrote "Much ado about nothing".

PS. I've noticed that the talking heads on tv never mention MMCC now- it's just Climate Change. I guess they realised that not many people believe it. Just C C is much more vague to foment fear over.

Agree.

Strange then that no one in government is talking about too many people on Earth. Some even want more of us.

And where would those temps be, because it's colder than I can remember here / PKK now, than the past 20 years since I've been here, living or visiting this time of year.

In the teens C overnight.

Average temps for PKK ... nothing less <20C

if u notice  they can link global warming to ANY tax increase and mitigate the res[ponses to "saving the planet" and who can argue with that.

I had noticed that, and often include the tax thing in my climate change posts.

It's stupid to say "saving the planet" as humans are destroying it and if they wanted to save the planet they'd be for enforced population reduction.

The planet will be fine without any humans on it.

They should say "saving humans from extinction".

Have youn heard of Glacial and Inter-Glacial periods, stretching back hundreds of thousands of years ?

I posted the link above. The timescale you quote above is absolutely meaningless.

Yeah right.

so was last year the hottest on record or not?

Like climate scientists told us would happen 30-40 years ago.

Would there be no fires without climate change?

Thee would be fires but no so intense.

Warmer and drier makes fires bigger.
it is pretty simple.

0.5 degree warmer since the last fire, or how much?
