An incident occurred in Buriram province when a worker fell from the top of a hay-laden trailer, resulting in his death. The village head, who was driving the vehicle, was seen kneeling in apology beside the victim’s body.

The incident took place on the evening of 11 January. Pol. Lt. Jirarot Mongkolthanasupat, an investigator at Nang Rong Police Station, received a report of a fatal fall in the Nong Song Subdistrict, Nang Rong District. Rescue personnel from the Siam Ruamjai Pu In Foundation were dispatched to the scene.

The incident occurred on a village road in Ban Khok Tako, Moo 9. The victim, identified as Mr. Jamlong 50, was found lying face down in a rice field. Upon examination, he was found to have suffered a broken neck and significant blood loss. Sitting nearby in a state of distress was Mr. Waradet 53, the village head of Moo 9, who repeatedly apologised to the deceased.

Mr. Waradet explained that he and three workers, including the victim, had been collecting hay bales from a field. The hay bales were stacked on a trailer towed by a tractor, forming a pile approximately 4 metres high. The victim had chosen to sit atop the stack while the trailer was being driven to a storage facility nearby.

As the group travelled slowly, another worker following behind on a motorcycle noticed the victim fall from the top of the stack and struck the ground. The worker immediately alerted Mr. Waradet, who stopped the vehicle and rushed back to find the victim unresponsive.

The hay storage facility was only 100 metres away when the incident occurred. The police and rescue team arrived to examine the scene, and the victim’s body was later sent for further examination.

Authorities are investigating the incident, with initial findings pointing to unsafe working practices.
