Looking at Lazada's cheapo laptops with Ryzen 7 chips - anyone bought one?

As the title says my Dell Latitude is probably 14 or 15 years old now, is giving me problems and needs replacing. I've nursed it along but in the last 9 years here it's had 2 new keyboards imported from Latvia of all places, a new HDD - big pain that was losing most of my files - new RAM, 3 replacement screens, replacement cooling fan, replacement USB ports (I didn't do those as they had to be soldered onto the motherboard) and has had to be stripped to a shell and cleaned twice. It now has developed a habit of hanging with message "not responding" which is annoying. It has got to go!

I'm 79 so no more Dell's etc as it won't be me who gets use out of them. I read that a 500GB SSD is good, and 16GB ram and a Ryzen 7 CPU is also great. I also want 15.6 screen.

Lazada got some seriously cheap new lappies from China, meaning under thb10000, the totally unheard of Mirval F7 range. That is not pocket money still but even so is cheap Chinese electronics but the specs are good and the AMD Ryzen7 5400 is reckoned to be very good. I don't do gaming, spend most days watching movies or YouTube, write occasional letters, and do internet banking, but I figure that so long as it has no spyware included with its OS (Windows 11 Pro) it's worth a punt.

Has anyone bought one? If so does it perform ok? I figure most of it's bits are likely to be generic if it goes wrong - China making most pc bits for everyone these days.

"cheapo lappies"

Do millennials talk like that?

You got that wrong pal, I was born in 1945!

Suggest go with a SSD hard drive as they are better for storage, speed, higher durability, and lower power consumption. Also go for 32GB ram, has a smoother running and can run more applications at the same time, better for straming movies as well

I've not bought any lappies, but bought some cheap Chinese mini PC(-ies) with legit Win11 Pro o/s for under 5000THB, built in SSD. They work just fine and I would have no hesitation buying a laptop also these days, very good value for money.

The ones quoted are all 16GB machines, I suppose the ram could be expanded but I don't do gaming and doubt my modest requirements would warrant expansion. They do have a 500GB SSD though. I got Netflix but tend not to use it, my son pays for it and gives my free use but TBH what I do is look at what is on offer and download what takes my fancy from elsewhere and delete when watched. More convenient than streaming.

Well, that's encouraging, thank you for that, much appreciated.

Charlie H - thanks, I saw that and did skim through but it didn't directly address my concerns about cheap Chinese products so started a new thread.

I wouldn´t go for any of the specs for such a low price. Usually a laptop with that price only have a maximum of 8 gb ram and would also have a slower CPU. Also the 250Hz on the screen bothers me for such low price. I think they bumped up the specs, and you will get lower.

I would look in Advice shops instead. They usually offer good price, holds the specs and give great service. You will pay more, but you get the quality.

According to UserBenchmark, the Ryzen 3 is a much faster CPU. However, I guess it depends on which Ryzen 3 it is.

I only buy electronics and televisions from big box stores where they offer warranty service and they offer recourse in the event of issues. With a Lazada vendor it's like buying from MBK, if you need the service you have no idea if you're going to get it.

I have purchased things on Lazada where the vendor would not stand behind them just a few months later. I only buy small ticket items on Lazada from now on.

I have always used AMD chips. They work just fine. The Ryzen 7 5400 is an excellent chip if you are not an extreme gamer. Memory and an add-on video card will be more important but the RAM is an easy upgrade. I like a SSD card slot along with a 2.5" hard drive slot configuration. 256mb is plenty for the SSD but then get a 2gb HDD.

Are you drunken? 😊 That's entirely fake.

The official price for that laptop is 15k and there isn't an official distributor in Thailand and even the specifications stated from that official outlet are fake(read the reviews). https://www.lazada.sg/products/2024-newmirval-f7-laptop-240hz-25k-156-ips-amd-ryzen-r7-5700u-8-cores-cpu-16gb-ddr4-512gb-ssd-9000mah-notebook-i2987686323.html

Stop trying to be cheap in trying to get something for nothing. Buy a second hand Latitude or Thinkpad if you don't want to spend much.

But stop dreaming about that device for 5.5k.
