When did this concern for reputation begin?

After the Pandemic lock-down ended, and the floodgates opened?

Let's kick them out.

And go back to pandemic-day tourist immigration controls.

Everyone needs to have a test before boarding aircraft bound for Thailand.

Not a COVID test, this time....

Just an IQ test.

Looks like a primitive mating ritual.

Chaos on Pattaya Beach

I like that, it sounds like the name of a bikini & biker movie from the 1960s.

Stunning coastline sorry did I miss something

as for yobbish behavior yes but let’s not forget the nightlife along beach road where ladies of the night openly flouted their trade with the odd lady body sticking there stilletoes into an unsuspecting tourist or the odd vendor getting killed

cheap booze will attract cheap quality customers see what you reap as they say

Pattaya Beach, known for its stunning coastline and electrifying nightlife, is grappling with a surge in alcohol-fuelled brawls involving unruly tourists. Once a haven for relaxation and revelry, the iconic destination has seen a troubling rise in disruptive incidents, leaving locals and officials concerned about the city’s reputation.

Reports reveal that drunken altercations have become an all-too-common sight, particularly after dark, in the bustling beach areas. Heated arguments, physical fights, and aggressive behaviours frequently disrupt the peace, posing safety risks to visitors and residents.

Some clashes have escalated to the point of requiring police intervention, adding strain to Pattaya’s already overstretched law enforcement.

The clashes are often concentrated near the beach’s lively bars, restaurants, and clubs, where the intoxicating mix of alcohol, loud music, and dense crowds fuels tempers. Tourists, emboldened by the party atmosphere, sometimes disregard local norms, further inflaming tensions.

In response, local officials are stepping up efforts to curb the chaos. Police patrols have been increased in high-traffic areas, and stricter regulations on public alcohol consumption are being enforced. Discussions are also underway to establish designated drinking zones to keep the revelry contained, said a police spokesperson.

“We rely heavily on tourism, but respect for the local environment and its people is essential to maintaining a welcoming and safe atmosphere for all.”

While Pattaya’s vibrant nightlife remains a major draw, authorities are walking a tightrope between preserving the city’s allure and ensuring public safety, reported Pattaya Mail.

As discussions on long-term solutions continue, the city is urging tourists to enjoy responsibly and remember the golden rule: “Party hard, but respect harder.”

The “Party hard, but respect harder” theme was ignored last night as a Thai man attacked a Swiss tourist with a cue stick at a bar in Pattaya, accusing the foreigner of cheating during a game of pool.

Rescuers from the Sawang Borriboon Dhammstan Foundation responded to the incident at a bar on Soi Khao Ta Lo in Bang Lamung district, Pattaya, on January 15, following reports of a physical altercation. Officers from Nong Prue Police Station later arrived at the scene.

[. . .] I think the abundant availability of Cannabis is a big draw

It was a big mistake by the Thai gov't to legalise the devil's cabbage.

Now you have all sorts of chavs, bogans, hillbillies and hosers flying to TH and creating chaos, esp when they mix it with the other drugs and booze.

Chuck them in a ring if they want to fight. Give them a safer space to bash the f out of eachother.

For all the thai "security" belting people to within an inch of their life, send them to the army in the south.

Russians deport. If they want to fight there is plenty of opportunity on their borders.

Vaxxxed, lockdowns fueled?

Why would have vaccines have have anything to do with it? And lockdowns finished over 2 years ago the basic fact is that thailand was a far off exotic destination years ago, now its just another mainstream over commercialised tourist hotspot, and will suffer the same fate as most other overly popular destinations from the past

I'm saying maybe there's a fair share of pent up aggression b/c of the lockdowns. People did not appreciate being shackled like wild animals. People want to get out there and give 'er like it's 1999.  i haven't even touched on violent videogames or the heavy mettle music.

And who the hades knows what the vackseens did to some people's brains??

Hmmm.... hard to cheat at a pool game if your opponent is watching.

Thought that from the get go. Played pool countless times and never thought you could cheat.

Actually, weed, metal music and video games are just more part time entertainment that people need. Violence, meaning un provoked or in self defense,  isn't brought about by it unless it's already a part of your character.

this old bugbear again. Decades of prostitution, but protect the reputation.

the headline is also misleading considering the whole article is speculation and the only wrongdoing is a local Thai attacking a tourist over a game of pool.

I doubt there is much that can go on that would hurt Pattaya's reputation.

The lockdown was years ago already

The CCP lifted their draconian and unreasonable lockdowns only 2 yrs ago. Plenty of resentment lingers. Plenty of time for pent up frustration to fester and explode into the violence we now see in Thailand.

Not to mention the Anglo-Saxon tourists. They perhaps had the harshest lockdowns of all because they never expected it, unlike the Chinese.

People were (are) angry and now that they are free to travel (until A.I. says they can't) they are gonna party like it's 1999 bruv.

Cheers buddy
