If you are retired, does it bother you that you will never be a Thai Permanent Resident?
No I said I have LTR. And believe LTR gives PR a run for my money. -

Is It Easy to Get Things Done in Thailand, or Is It Laden with Needless Formality?
A few years ago, I visited one of those leading countries in the EU. I was shocked about the bureaucracy and the horrible attitude from many so-called service workers over there. And email; one email account for the whole department. You can send something to them per email, then they print it and distribute it internally. And they answer of course with ordinary mail on paper, after weeks. Unbelievable, but true. Recently I needed a new ATM card in Thailand. I called them and they told me I can get it at any branch. So, I visited them. At the end it took about 30 min. But that was for me waiting and a friendly woman filling out about 20 forms and then all was done. Perfect? No. But a lot better than waiting a month with unfriendly people somewhere else. -

British man’s Thailand trip goes from heaven to prison hell (video)
if you get <deleted>-faced drunk, then you are likely to do something really stupid. also, when the police arrests you, you are likely to resist and act crazy, making things worse. so likely the root cause was being heavily intoxicated. -

Root canal treatment
Leaving in 2 weeks, probably not enough time to do a root canal much less get the subsequent crown. I've had a number of root canals over the years, all involved 3 - 5 sessions each at least a week apart, followed by insertion of post and fitting for a crown. Over a month for the whole thing. -

Wake Up! - EVs Are Here, and Your Gas Guzzler is on Life Support
Well, there we have it. Wait a year to verify it is legit and then this will be my next car unless(probable) there is even a better option. Funny, now that I switched to renewables for most my energy needs, I'm spending more than ever before but it is fun. -

Thai tax tangle: Expats warned of new rules on overseas income
You tell 'em. First, let's assume you're an honest US Citizen, so you declare your Thai interest from your Thai bank account on your annual US tax filing. Let's say your average amount in the bank is $25000 (850k bt). Based on what Bangkok Bank paid me last year on my savings account interest (.40%) -- that would be $100 in annual interest income to report on my US 1040 tax return. So, that's what you report on Schedule B of the 1040. Or, you don't, 'cause you have no taxable income (standard deduction greater than gross income). Or you don't, 'cause you're dishonest. In any of these situations, it won't matter that Uncle Sam knows you have a Thai bank account, because under FATCA, there's no reporting on aggregated accounts under $50000 at year end ($75000 any time during the year), so in my example, nothing about your account will be forwarded to the US. But, of course, if you have well over $50000 in Thai bank accounts, and you don't report the interest on these on your US tax filing -- that's why FATCA came about. So, yeah, if you're a tax evader, best not give your SSN to the Thai bank. But, if honest, what's the big deal....?
