Think about it. Immigration will have every tourist's passport details, date of entry, and visa length on their database

Airlines require to provide this information to the goverment in most countries, so this could also be the issue for thailand.

The $64,000 question, of course, is whether it will only be those entering Thailand on the basis of tourist visas or visa exemptions who will be required to file an online TM6. Or will this requirement apply equally to longstayers entering/returning to Thailand on the basis of non-immigrant visas/re-entry permits?

It was mentioned that it will be applicable for all foreigners entering Thailand.

Gday

They the new TM 6 applies only to Tourists hence I assume the long-term expats are exempted from it ? Extension of stay with 12 months stay and re-entry permit.

Same was said with the ETA only Tourists.

I don't have a big issue with doing this online TM6 form when it is inplemented but i'm only afraid of the processing time as i have to travel sometimes at a very short notice (within 24 hours) and this could be a big issue for some.

because longterm foreign residents with a re-entry permit have their pre-approval to re-enter in that form already

As will those entering with a tourist visa (as distinct from a visa exemption) presumably.
