I have been stopped innumerable times, particularly when I lived in Bangkok.
One time, a police officer jumped out from behind a car trying to grab my arm causing me to swerve like an insane game of tick. I razzed off without thinking. That was the only time I ran a police checkpoint. It was on Ratchadamri, I think, by the old Cambodian embassy. It was very exciting. I thought they would catch me at the next junction so I quickly turned left. I got away with it!
Possible, yes. I'd like to know how much from the FAA budget was being spent on any initiatives or resources that do not improve the front line air traffic control service. Includes, but I'm sure not exclusively, DEI.
I expect to see a couple of high net worth individuals, possibly Chinese, paraded before the media for not paying this tax.
You've lived in Thailand long enough to know the Directory General will order it done, so he can say to his boss and the public, "See, we are catching them and making them pay tax." It goes to "face."
Time will tell.
