Bangkok Tests Fireboats After Repairs to Ensure Emergency Readiness

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has completed repairs on several fireboats and conducted test runs to ensure their engines, water cannons, and emergency response systems are functioning efficiently.

 

Deputy Bangkok Governor Chakkaphan Phiewngam led an inspection at the Borommaratchachonnani Fire and Rescue Station in Bang Phlat District, alongside officials from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), the Mechanical Engineering Division, and the Finance Bureau. The inspection focused on evaluating the effectiveness of the budget allocated for fireboat repairs and maintenance.

 

Mr Chakkaphan confirmed that the Mechanical Engineering Division had successfully completed repairs on multiple fireboats. These included engine system overhauls, fixes to propeller mechanisms, and steering system adjustments. One fireboat, in particular, underwent extensive work, including:

 

• Engine oil system repairs

• Replacement of coolant pumps

• Installation of a new 200-amp battery

• Fixes to electrical, water pump, and propeller systems

• Hydraulic engine system repairs

 

Following the repairs, officials conducted a test run from the Borommaratchachonnani Fire and Rescue Station to the Wat Kaeo Fa Chulamanee Pier. During this test, the engine performance was assessed at maximum speed, and the fire suppression system was evaluated. 

 

The water cannons, mounted at the front of the vessel, were tested for both long-distance spraying and wide-area dispersal. The results confirmed that all systems were functioning efficiently, allowing the fireboats to be fully operational for firefighting and water rescue missions.

 

The BMA aims to ensure rapid emergency response for residents living along Bangkok’s canals and rivers, where fireboats play a crucial role in firefighting and water-based rescues. The initiative also seeks to optimise budget spending on emergency vehicles, machinery, and equipment, ensuring cost-effective maintenance and efficient use of public funds.

 

So far, four fireboats have been fully repaired and certified for use, while the one remaining boat still undergoing further maintenance and upgrades.

Surely this should not be classed as news but come under the heading of General Maintenance. OHhh!! 😱👀 just a minute we are talking about Thailand silly me - general maintenance................LOL
