Someone needs to start an indice or tracker for policy backtracking/reversal (not following an election), for any country. Its a good measure of political stupidity. Putin invades Ukraine, Putin pulls out of Ukraine, proof the invasion was stupid. Chagos Islands to Mauritius; UK (likely) policy reversal; proof the policy was stupid. Tariffs on Canada/Mexico (and questioning who was the idiot who signed USMCA....), reversal, proof the policy was stupid. Blindly firing civil servants, then  scrambling to bring them back when the bits of government that need people stop working. Stupid policy. Rzenaming the Gulf Mexico. Stupid. Firing 5000 FBI agents for doing their jobs. Stupid when it blindsides you to the next 911. Giving the logins for every US employee, past and present, to someone 12 months out of high school. Stupid when they find out [a] He hits delete by mistake [b] he flogs the details. Allowing a Billionaire who wants to be a Trillionaire, largely because of sucking off the teat of government, by further sucking off the teat of government. Stupid. etc etc

 

But after 4 years, nothing will actually get done that is truely constructive. Sure, there will be smoking ruins of institutions of government (education, healthcare, social security, foreign service, crime prevention, immigration, defence), and some people might cheer that. But Trump is a lazy barsteward. He was lazy last time, and second time around, he will be even lazier, because with age, comes the need for that afternoon siesta.

POTUS better start thinking inside i.e. the domestic economy. His America First pledge has being largely ignored for his deluge of crazy foreign policies.  The economic indicators are not looking good with Job growth below forecast, consumer sentiment down and inflation has picked up 1% which is a large increase. Unemployments will go up with all the firings and the FED will hesitate to cut rates adding woes to the economy. His supporters will turn on him when the economy pains hit home. Personally I don’t see his policies will improve the economy and may go into a recession this year.

I don't think the US voters have had time to realise exactly how Trump's plans to keep his election promises are going to affect their pockets - the main reason he won the election.

 

Maybe:

 

Mass Closures

Mass Redundancies

Retaliatory Tarrifs

Disfunctional government departments

Climate change denial despite massive fires, hurricanes and floods

And fast becoming the laughing stock of the world

 

Will make them think - hopefully in time for the midterms.

 

Nothing wrong with taking a look and making sure governance is carried out efficiently but it seems that is not how Musk is actually carrying out Trump's orders.

 

I agree with Trump that the war between Israel and Palestinians must end - it cannot continue boiling up every 5 years or so.  There is a solution but its one that I suggested in another post - one that the UN and many countries around the world have been pressing for for many years - The 2 state Solution, might have to be imposed.

 

Trump clearly does not understand the reasons why 7 October happened. And before anyone jumps down my thoat - there's a difference between supporting and understanding. I most certainly do not support Hamas or any other form of terrorist group but I do understand why events like 7 October happened.

 

'Now with extra madness' spot on and much more to come I fear. Worringly Trumps's Gaza project has the potential to wreck the current Ceasefire and put the lives of the remaining hostages at risk.  Why would Hamas want to negotiate further if they believe they are going to be forcibly evicted from their home?
