TM47 (90 day report) reminder..but it's only been 6 weeks!

Recommended Posts

I just got an automated reminder that my next 90 day report is due on 21 Feb. But I only did one in early January ! Now, 21 Feb is the date my non-o extension expires so has something changed and you have to restart the 90 days with a new extension? Or is this just a glitch? I checked my records and last year I did a TM47 in early jan and again end of March with the visa extension in-between, so if things have changed it's the first I've heard of it. And it would be rather pointless, I could do the TM47 online now and then have to do it again when I go into Ubon immigration for my extension. So the "logical" thing to do is wait until I go into the office and give them extra work.

You do not have to do a 90 report when you do your extension.  My 90 day hasn't coincided with my extension for enough years that I can't remember the last time it did.

If you can do it online, it's going to take you less time then starting this topic.  Immigration is a bureaucracy and stuff like this is part and parcel of bureaucratic inefficiency.  Fill another one and and your done.

Has me confused.

90 report should have nothing to do with annual extensions.

So here is a story...

Nov 5 , i attended CW for 2 appointments.

One for TM47 and one for annual extension.

I went to 90 report first.

In broken English the io told me obtain extension first. I only had 3 days till expiry and I needed extension for her to give renewal date 90 days after I do extension.

Yes.

.

I've never had to do it before, but Immigration is telling me that I have to now!

Correction to first post, it was 31 Dec I submitted the last TM47, not early Jan, but still a LOT less than 90 days.

Receipt and reminder attached:

The 90 days you did in January will only take you up to the extension date.

The system won't allow you to extend online once you apply on 21 February, if that is the date your extension is due.

When applying for your extension, the immigration officer will provide you with an 90 day extension once your stamp is put in your passport.

I came across this and was as well when I received the same notice, I was a little confused at 1st, e.g. extension was due on 31 January, I tried to the 90 day extension on line just beforehand after the email reminder, but it wouldn't allow me to renew it.

The above said, it would appear that the system knows when your extension is due, but still sends out the 90 day email renewal notice, for whatever reason, maybe it's there way to say, oi, time to renew your extension ?

When I did my extension (marriage), they said that I didn't require a 90 day extension until my stamp went into my passport on 1 March, so it would be done then.

I didn't like the fact that I was without a 90 day extension, but immigration assured me it was ok, because my extension was under consideration, hence no further 90 day extension was required.

I look forward to the day they do away with this 90 day extension and just do annual extensions, albeit it 5 year extensions would be a dream...LOL

Hope the above clears things up for you.

^ Ah, ok then, things have changed since last year, but first I've heard of it. probably due to an "improvement" in the online 90 day process, LOL.

Love the comic relief.

Online for me at CW has hardly ever been successful.

I'm in shock that my last one was approved.

I would like to get something clear in my head. Yesterday I got my online 90 day approval done, only 22 hours from CW. It will be up for renewal on May 6, 2025. This is the day I am leaving Thailand with a reentry permit to go to my daughters wedding.  If I understand it correctly I have no need to do a 90 day report as I am leaving on reporting day. Coming back in 3 weeks I will then go to immigration in person once again to start the new 90 day clock after 90 days back in the country. Correct?

Thanks

Correct.

Also upon return (as you would be aware) arrival counts as day one.

When report window opens you could consider report via mail

Is there not leeway either before or after the 'reporting day'?

In person it can be done up to 7 days after due date.

So leaving on due date the 90 report is not required.

Here lies the problem, I am also getting a new US passport via mail. It should arrive by mid March. So I have to transfer an arrival stamp from last year in June into it. Then have the new stamp for a yearly extension put into it.

I could do an online 90 day again using the old passport, but in reality it will be cancelled. I am hoping to just do the stamp changes when I go for the new extension the end of April. Then leave on May 6th and do as I originally said.

And what is the date in the box, lower left, "Notify your address again on..."?

This must be a new "practice". I have received 90-day reports (online ext stay/ret--CW) with a next report date past my current ext of stay date, including last September.

During COVID and for a brief time (Sep 2021? for me) Imm at CW did issue a new TM47 during the ext process, but that was a one-off.

Hope I'm not mixing up your dates.

Thinking best option is to have stamp transfer done at same visit as extension.

Both those services are done L32-35 desks.

After receiving the extension you could go to 90 day report desks and do that in person. However not necessary.

You could even obtain your reentry permit into new pp.

Note obtaining reentry permit also available at airport on departure.

Note: if you extension is based on retirement immigration will require your bank book and photocopies of pages + update etc.

No problem as you would have all that for extension.

You may require two sets.

Thanks Jack, we are thinking exactly the same. Also thanks on the heads up for two sets of documents, always better to be safe that sorry. I will have all the bank statements updated including the book at 9:00am ready for an 11:00am meeting with the IO at Changwattana.  Hand drawn and Google map for address

Bit unrelated however here is my recent renewal.

I had appointment for extension Nov 5 at 11am (CW)

I also had appointment at 10am for 90 day report (A mistake).

IO sent me away from report desk and told me to do extension first

After which I was seen instantly.

I also had new pp couple of months prior but did the transfer at that time as was exiting Thailand.

Reason for suggesting the 90 report (even though not required) it puts your new pp# etc into the "system"

I have not exited Thailand since Nov 5 and just recently received approval for my online report.

Was almost overnight approval.

Still in shock as previously very little success.

Good idea I shall see how the timing goes. I hope for an 11:00am extension and then a 1:00pm reentry if not right after the extension. It seems upon return I will have to report in person as I did last year upon return. When I went to do the online no problem after that with two 24 hour returns via online.

I can't find it but recent report in a thread where someone returning from trip abroad had success with TM47 via mail.

What for date your latest 90 days Slip is giving you?

I've never run across that.  I'm currently "Under Consideration" and I just completed an online 90 day and was approved with a date that is two month and change past my Under Consideration report date.  So my 90 day just expired a full month after my extension which was completed at the end of Dec 2024.  (If this confuses anyone, I have a two month "Under Consideration" period - never seen that before). So my last 90 day was submitted and approved in Nov 2024.
Same with every time I've completed a 90 day prior to my extension renewals - my 90 days always have been approved and the expiration of the 90 day is well past the date of my visa extension expiration date, ie, a full 90 days.

So "no," 90 day expiration dates do not "only take you up to the extension (sic - expiration) date."

I don't know - maybe this has something to do with individual Immigration offices but I'm not experiencing it.

I'm confused with my experience Nov 5 for 90 report and annual extension which only had 3 days remaining

So I try do the 90 report first (CW)

So io was pushing me off saying "only 3 only 3. Do extension and come back"

Dawned on me later is the "only 3" was referring to my remaining 3 days till expiry of my permission of stay.

Confused off I went and did my 12 month extension.

Went back to friendly io (90 report desk) and she instantly did my TM47 receipt.

To complete story I very recently did online 90 report and approved almost overnight.

90 day reports never sync with extension dates. Here on Samui the imm office always automatically gives you a new 90 days when extension is granted.

As Connda stated above, it's probably got to do with the individual immigration office rules.

Korat immigration always resets the 90-day report at

extension renewal same desk, so no great hassle

Same with Sakon Nakhon.

Cannot renew online.

I apply for my 90 days in November every year and it only takes me to 31 January when my extension is due, after that, the immigration officer starts it again when they receive authority to stamp my passport with the new extension on 1 March.

It would appear to be up to each individual immigration office, same same, but not same in Thailand.
