Red wine special occasion

Please recommend a tasty Red for a specific occasion. Question:: how much would you pay for a really good one, if unsure of the proper storage in this climate?

Without knowing the food you will drink it with, your personal likes and your budget it isn't possible to answer your question. Rimping and Food Hall in Festival have decent selections but lack knowledgeable staff to guide you. The very best place with the biggest selection and knowledgeable staff is Enoteca, located at the rear of the 5th Avenue office park on the 1001 near Meechok Plaza. They have more old world than new world wines and their prices are surprisingly reasonable given the quality available. Personally I see no need to spend more than 2000 baht on a really well made enjoyable wine.

This bought at cj for 450 baht last week, and cant say it was great, but decent table wine for those who do not know wine or have a taste for wine

I buy some great Malbecs for under 1,000 baht a bottle but I know Malbec is not everyone cup of tea!!

This is my favourite wine at about 750 baht a bottle from VinesToVino in Pattaya.

I suggest going to Vinum Lector in Hang Dong. The location is shown on google maps. It is in the Star Avenue mall. They have a very wide range of interesting wines at generally very good prices. Ask the branch manager there, Davide (Italian I believe), for some recommendations based on your tastes and the food you will eat it with. As one example, they have Chateau Pontet-Fumet, a Saint Emilion Grand Cru, for only a bit over 1100B, if red Bordeaux wines are to your taste

Some good replies here and as someone has said, we all have different tastes, so one suggestion may not fit all!!

 

However I concur with @neilrobabout going to Vinum Lector because they have a good selection of reasonably priced wines, up to the expensive, and they are one of my two main suppliers of wine.

 

You may wish to try a southern Italian Appassimento, for that full-bodied and raisony taste, or going to one of my other favourites is a wine from California called "Authentic Black" made from the Petite Sirah grape (called Durif in France and Australia) which has some good bottle age and for me is an excellent buy – – both of these wines retail for about 650 baht plus VAT, and can be delivered.

 

Many years ago I was an avid buyer and collector of top shelf French wines, but became disappointed with the quality of some of them, although I kept them in an air-conditioned "cellar", so I don't buy them now, but perhaps I should go back and try a few of the Cru wines by way of a change these days.
