Beat me to it ha ha thank you!

Doesn't really explain anything though... the 800k in bank or not, is still an issue, as is getting a new bank account.

Sounds like they can't help if you need a bank account

All of us retirees already on retirement extensions will have already got a Thai bank account.  It was the renewals that was concerning some of us.

Other agents in other provinces can help opening an account, but they won't help you unless you using their visa services as well.

Yeah if someone wants to start the 800k agent method and haven't got a Bangkok Bank account they won't be able to, as of now anyway

If you're already on a long term extension, you should still be able to open one up yourself.  Just need a resident certificate from immigration and pop down the bank yourself.  It's the folks here without a long term visa that will have difficulty.  From my past experience last year, I found it impossible myself to open a BKK bank  in Pattaya.  Just before I left the branch the girl whispered in my ear and winked "Use another branch in Chonburi province".  Went up to Chonburi city the next day and the account was opened within 10 minutes and wasn't forced to but their insurance either.

... or else they just have to find a new 'clean' mule.

As an old boss of mine would say: don't worry about the mule.... just load the wagon.

The VAST majority of folk using agent to obtain 1.bank account 2. Non O

3. 12 month extension do not have/want to meet the financial requirements.

That's what the thread concerns..

Not hand holding or obtaining extension early

Do you have proof of this?

Come on...

The thread is about couple of agents that flagged issues with opening bank account that would in turn cause issue with obtaining Non O retirement.

Hand holding (your situation) is done by all agents.

Very small number of folk only need hand holding.

BTW at agent fee of 2k that you mention is not the agents in this thread is Mots, Tic Tok, Maneerat etc.

I know agents and aware of their client base profile.

Yes I noted that. But sometimes there are a few casualties along the way.

Always.... such is life

I don't use their services, but I'm on Thai Visa Center's mailing list. Received an email from them saying despite some agencies having problems in the Pattaya region it's 'business as usual' for us. We are still able to assist retirees from Chiang Mai down to Phuket. (I don't know if they ever obtain extensions from Jomtien though)

I have had a BKK bank account for many years.

I went to my local branch to setup the mobile banking app and had to sign over 10 forms, and the bank employee had to ring support to get help as how to update my account, which required about three account status changes.

Anyway, they said they would contact me in two weeks to confirm the mobile banking setup...but I am still waiting!

I tried ringing the branch, but no-one actually answers the phone, which I suspected to be the case as I have never seen anyone actually talking on the landline phones in my many visits over the years.

My question: is this normal, in any way, for old accounts or a result of the recent crackdown etc?

Any feedback on people setting up the mobile banking app would be greatly appreciated.
