Police Raid Cannabis Operation in Don Mueang Market, Three Foreigners Arrested

In a planned operation, police raided a cannabis cultivation and processing site located in a well-known cosmetics market in Don Mueang, resulting in the arrest of three individuals overseeing the illegal operation, including two Vietnamese nationals and a Swedish national.

 

At approximately 14:00 on 19 February, Police Colonel Sukrit Mangklasawat, the head of Don Mueang Police Station, instructed his team, led by Deputy Superintendent Amnat Chamchaem, to execute a search warrant issued by the Criminal Court. The search targeted a four-storey commercial building at 199/148 Soi Cherdwuthakart 9 in the Don Mueang district, following complaints about the strong smell of cannabis coming from the premises.

 

The building, situated within a bustling cosmetics market, raised suspicions when officers observed that the front door of the unit was locked. After attempts to call for someone inside yielded no response, police gained entry through the back and apprehended two Vietnamese men and one Asian man of Swedish nationality on the fourth floor.

 

Upon investigation, officers discovered four large suitcases on the first floor filled with dried cannabis buds. The mezzanine level served as a storage area for cannabis packed in bags, while the second floor contained vacuum-sealing equipment and digital scales for processing the product. Large quantities of dried cannabis were stored in zip-lock bags, some already vacuum-packed. The third and fourth floors had been modified for cannabis cultivation, equipped with hydroponic systems and artificial lighting; however, no live cannabis plants were found during the search.

 

By 16:00 senior police officials, including Deputy Commissioner Nopasit Poonksawad and several others, arrived at the scene to assess the operation. Deputy Commissioner Nopasit stated that the Metropolitan Police Bureau had intensified its efforts to investigate suspected illegal activities and the presence of foreign nationals unlawfully working in the area. He indicated that the building was likely rented as a site for storing and cultivating cannabis.

 

Deputy Commissioner Chotiwat Leuangwilai emphasised that selling cannabis necessitates approval from multiple authorities, including public health and law enforcement agencies, to assess individual cases for compliance. Without the proper permits, any cultivation or sales of cannabis would constitute a legal violation.

 

During the interrogation, the individuals overseeing the cannabis operation admitted they were hired to guard the building and the cannabis products, receiving a monthly wage of 15,000 baht. Their responsibilities included packaging the cannabis for distribution.

 

The owner of the building and the employer of the three individuals will also be summoned for questioning. Initial inquiries revealed that the three suspects may have also violated immigration laws, overstaying their visas. They have been transferred to Don Mueang Police Station for further legal action.

So, it wasn't their business. They were hired to guard and distribute... 

 

The worst thing they did was work without a work permit for a company that didn't have a license... 

Just like pretty much any other weed shop / dispensary we see all around Thailand then.

For the arrested workers this is more a violation of visa and work permit laws than an infringement of regulations regarding cannabis. Remains to be seen if the Thai business owner had the necessary permits to process cannabis.

Truly Gottfrid, I don't mind your replies at all...   its good to know that unhinged people are out there, your posts are a healthy reminder.

 

I can see it in the bars and restaurants when some one gets angry and wound up of the simplest of issues - it could be their brain chemistry or other underlying frustrations in life that surface, nevertherless, its a healthy reminder to keep strangers at arms length.

You are starting to be ridiculous. Here we have underlying meaning of that I might be unhinged, that I am not well, have underlying frustrations and it might be something wrong with the brain chemistry. Let me tell you Richard, I am not angry, nor frustrated or wound up. I am calm and cool as a cucumber. Plainly, I just don´t like you, as you try to tell all people what is right or wrong or how to see and do things. Who made you the expert? Most of the 1st world criminals busted here, are often so ignorant of Thailand.

They believe as if the prison system here is as soft as theirs.

That's why their psychological hurdle is so low before they start something illicit here.

Absolutely.

Quite sickening to treat criminal offenders like hotel guests.

Especially when they ruined life of the innocent(physically, psychologically, or financially).
