Must be a dodgy vape supplier in the area. I haven't heard of this happening globally.

My thoughts too. The report said

He revealed that three other students in the area were recently hospitalized due to vaping-related chest pain and shortness of breath.

Why more in this particular area and not the whole country?  I doubt very much if vaping alone is the cause, but I am noit a medical expert.

These words can be used again and again when discussing health and laws in Thailand.

Life is going to be extremely difficult for this poor lass from now on all because people think that vaping is safe.

(and please do not bother telling me that you have been vaping for 150 years and your lungs are fine 'cough! cough!')

When I was in Thailand a few years back I saw three boys on a motorbike. They were 10-12 years old. They seem to be having a hell of a good time riding the motorbike, laughing and smoking.

This is a lack of parental guidance.. a kid that is vaping for 2 years and nobody noticed?? Something is very wrong.

Well, mama is vaping in Pattaya and grandma who is acting as mother has never even heard about vaping.

That's it about parental guidance

I don't smoke and have nothing against smokers, but a quick Google search gave a list of websites from recognised health institutes debating the dangers of vaping.

You are right about cigarettes being smelly. My close friend gave up smoking (30 or more a day) and started vaping, so now he doesn't stink like he used to. His lungs are badly damaged, but that is through heavy smoking for 40+ years.

and yet...

Her grandmother, Ae, was caught off guard when teachers informed her about the girl's severe lung condition. "I didn't know. She used to be diligent but changed after starting Grade 4,"

Oh well, that's what an addiction to Thai lakorn on the idiot box does to you, too busy watching nonsense to notice her granddaughter coughing up blood a few feet away, lol.

The British health authorities warned of the dangers on vaping years ago, they said it would take a minimum of 5 years before the problems started to emerge as it was a unknown hazard

She can't be the only kid vaping in her area. There is a shop selling to children. Find the shop, fine the owner heavily and arrest the owner if he or she doesn't stop.

Kids can buy beer in family run stores.  I have my wife’s niece (8) run to the local shop when I need a refresher.

So you condone young children buying beer - and you too tired to go yourself? You wouldn't even need to run.

A poor example from an irresponsible adult!

Something not right about this story, the girl apparently has a severe chronic lung condition, it didn't just manifest itself overnight did it ?    Why was it not noticed and medical advice sought months ago ?  It must have  been quite hard not to notice the rather unpleasant symptoms that accompany severe lung damage but nothing done by anybody until now ??

Were they just seeing how long she could last it out alone ?

If it was an unknown hazard how did they know it would take 5 years and not 10 ?

Absolutely shocking :cheesy:     your response that is.

Just because certain things are considered "unacceptable" in ones home country  does not mean they are viewed in the same way here. Its perfectly acceptable to send a kid to the shop to buy beer or ciggies here, You should learn to accept things and not try  to impose your former homelands rules on Thai society

Nothing to do with where I come from.

I don't consider it "unacceptable", I consider it irresponsible.

My comment remains valid!

Tend to agree, one would expect to see 1000's of underage vape victims staggering around coughing up blood if it were true that vapes were so deadly.

Cheap Chinese crap nobody knows what chemicals they are using in these devices.

I'm not advocating smoking or vaping, but seems to me that vaping is the worse of the two evils. I never smoked but both my parents did for many many years and they never had any lung problems.

It entirely depends on WHAT you are vaping!  Buying vape liquids from reputable companies is a must, if you vape.
I quit smoking soon 10 yrs ago and replaced with vaping.  My lungs are in better shape than when smoking.  That being said, obviously I should quit vaping too, but at my advanced age I’ve decided to hang on to one vice 😂

There is a general consensus from non-biased research that vaping is less harmful for your lungs since you are not inhaling a burning product, AND if you purchase decent vape liquids the amount of carcinogens are a fraction of what is used in cigarettes.

Tragic but there has to be more to this than we are being told.

She had to have had a pre-existing condition or got a hold something very toxic.

Grandparents were never intended to be parents, there's something about Thai Society that allows a woman to leave her child with her parents and turn them into complete martyrs.

They probably don't want it but they can't say no. It's a completely ridiculous aspect of Thai society and the grandparents cannot be expected to know the art of parenting, and take care of the child as if it was their own.

So, who's fault is it really? Mama is to blame. Environment is stronger than willpower so you just can't expect a 12 year old to behave in a wise manner.

Well, to be honest, grandparents were parents once upon a time, otherwise they could not become grandparents! 😂

Vaping is safe. I don't even believe the prognosis. Have medical professionals made this prognosis ? Or has some karens jumped to conclusions ?

This whole story looks made up. We know for a fact that vaping is safer than smoking. Hundreds of studies have been done. How many 12 year olds were hospitalized back in the day when everyone smoked and kids got a hold of them regularly ? Smoking causes long term health effects. It doesn't blow out your lungs in 2 years. Neither would vaping if we pretend for a minute that it is as bad as smoking.

The story is made up.

Of course there is. There is no way that this story is true as it is being told.

But these stories pass through the media and people believe them. It feeds the narrative and effects legislation.

Vaping I'd a right disgrace. Kids are led to believe it is safe(ish)....so puff away.

The flavoured vapes are dangerous and have you noticed the amount of smoke that a vaper expels. Thomas the Tank Engine on legs or a WW2 destroyer putting out smoke.

Treat vapes as a serious health hazard, price them to heck and only for those over 18.

In the local stores defence, I am sure that they know she is fetching it for the "Falang Uncle".

It is not smoke ! It is vapour.

In 2022, UK experts reviewed the international evidence and found that "in the short and medium-term, vaping poses a small fraction of the risks of smoking".

Cigarettes release thousands of different chemicals when they burn – many are poisonous and up to 70 cause cancer. Most of the harmful chemicals in cigarette smoke, including tar and carbon monoxide, are not contained in vape aerosol.

People who switch completely from smoking to vaping have significantly reduced exposure to toxins associated with risks of cancer, lung disease, heart disease and stroke.
