It really has to do with the strength of the Thai baht I know a lot of people not coming because they can go elsewhere for less money but they won't listen and trying to get more Chinese is not the right path in my opinion

The Chinese are more than 3x the population than the whole of Europe, plus they are neighbours... Indian again, 4x the population and far nearer to Thailand than Europe

20 years ago it was 50 baht a beer and 20 baht on top for a girly drink. 200 baht bar fine and the girl stayed all night for 1k, cleaned your room in the morning and took your washing to the laundry..great sex at least 3 times also. Now it's 200 baht a girly drink, 500 baht minimum bar fine and girls IF they stay all night want 3k upwards, and that will be sex once..early morning they are gone..then people wonder why bars are empty...sex and.proatitites are cheaper in Europe...

Pattaya bars are just fronts for prostitution. Not all visitors want to hire a rough Isan tart for sex, so why go into a tacky bar?

How about a smooth tart from a sticky bar?

I remember those days well!

Africa is where all the action is at at these days...

If I owned a bar I would ban the girls using their phones during working hours. If they didn't like it I then I'd move them on.

I know a bar on Samui that does exactly that. All the girls phones go in a bag when they arrive for their shift looked after by the mamasan. They get them back when they are bar fined or going home. The girls are attentive (although most have a face like a smacked ar$e) but it seems to work well and it's usually a good night for the punters.

There is NO PROSTITUTION in Pattaya.
This was confirmed by the RTP after a personal visit to the bars.

Prostitution  is widely avsi;able on their home Countries

at much higher costs.

also, it's not socially accepted in western countries and if you are single/divorced, you have low status in society and people think you're a loser.

Well since they basically stopped the Bf experience and most women are wanting thousands for an hour with them. The bar scene there is boring. So many of the bars have older and fatter women now and all wanting quickies for alot of cash. . along with a lot of drinks bought prior to any side deals in a bedroom.

The BF experience is dangerous.

That's when guys start falling in love and buying them houses.

So you are saying that every bar is tacky and a front for prostitution. I hadn't noticed.

Gracious me, and I thought it was my rugged good looks, winning smile and gallant attempts to flatter in the languages (Thai and Akha) which led to my popularity in the two (out of the few available) bars I patronise!

That said it does confirm my suspicions about one other in the neighbourhood, which rejoices in the name "69 Bar"!

Who the hell cares what people think?

Worrying about "society's opinions" is basically a sign of insecurity.

As long as all involved are consenting adults, just go your own way.

Talking of which, just off to a Gentleman's Club 😆

Soi 6 has been destroyed.  All of the 25 bars owned by the same company are all the same.  Super loud music, of a style that doesn't match the clientele of the bar, at any given  time.  Get a few young guys in, the latest EDM.  Get a few older guys in, the latest EDM.

As their business model declines, the drink prices and bar fines have gone up, and as the girls are not getting as many customers because of the uninviting environment, the girls put their prices up as well.  Same old Thai story.  Money go down, put price up.  That basically means the business is not viable, across all of their bars.

Last time I went to one of that company's bars, it was 110 baht a beer, and I had to get up off the bar stool and take the bar girl outside where she could hear what I wanted to order, then go back inside.  I had one beer and left.

To take the p*ss before leaving, I waved over one of the young bar managers and said in a raised voice, but not yelling, "Where are you from?"  He said, "What, I can't hear you."  Then I yelled really loudly and said, "Yeah, neither can the staff hear my drink order" and walked out.

And somehow, they expect customers to take a girl upstairs.

You have zero interaction with the girls because of the ridiculously loud music, so you may as well go to a "soapy" and have a nice clean room for 90 minutes.

At my age, I'd pay 120 baht a beer if they played some 80's music and at a reasonable level of volume.

To be fair, I considered maybe they are targeting the young western 2 week millionaires.  Walking down Soi 6 I could see most of their bars only had 2 or 3 customers.  So that's about 75 customers across 25 bars.  Good Luck with that.

Sou 6 has been dieing for the last 6 or 7 years. Leave it to the tourists....there are far better places in Pattaya now.

That's the thing, not even tourists go there now.  It's not because Soi 6 is too "seedy."  It's because the business model of the one company that owns most of the bars on Soi 6 run the soi basically like a 25 room nightclub.

It's very uncomfortable in social settings when you're the only single person there.

People think you're nuts and even if you're not very insecure, it does affect you.

Thailand is a much better place if you want to live off the beaten path of conventional lifestyle.

Never been my experience. But then I'm arrogant enough to be happy in my own skin and at nearly 70 that ain't gonna change!

PS and I AM nuts 😛

The costs are similar and hiring prostitutes is also frowned upon in Thailand by much of society , you may forget that if you live among them

Yes, good point.

That's why places like Pattaya exist where like-minded people congregate for a certain lifestyle.

Because that lifestyle does not mix well with family life.

In Western countries, it's not out in the open mostly.

Good news. At last the falangs and other girlie bar patrons are realising how those fine bar stool girls are cheating, ripping off clients and overcharging either for the drinks, the bar fines or the ST or LT 😜...At one point better off in any soapy, negociate the rate before hand (sic!)  and release the big load at a honest rate.

not higher cost for a woman short time in the US... Actually the bar girls here cost a heck of a lot more now here. Not to mention to 1-2000 bar fine... the drinks.. the room if getting short time at the bar.. then the girl cost of 1000+....

You can find a street walker in the US for 30 or more. Less than 1000 THB...

Even cheaper in Spain or the Canary Islands with top hot ladies on duty ! Great climate all year around, food hardly a bit more costly then Bangkok, but no more immigration scams, hassles, no more getting cheated in a inflated bill in a restaurant, no more crooked tailors who cheat with poor work and so on....

I was in Pattaya in Jan, first time for about 15 years. I walked the whole length of Soi 6 and didn't see one place I wanted to go into for a beer, for the same reasons you outlined. Such a pity!

But, but, but, now a certain poster has returned, rich beyond our wildest dreams following a couple of months in Hong Kong, the good times can roll again!

I joined Thai Visa in 2003. I believe the first post I read was telling us that the bars were empty, Pattaya was dying, it was all over...

Must try and get down there before it all ends!

Bob, are the bars empty now?
