I'm a bit out of the loop, but are Israeli/Jewish tourist generally known to behave poorly? 

 

 

The answer is: yes they very often behave poorly. I come across them frequently in recent months. Polite, courtesy is unknown to them.

   I did  google websearch and only two results came up and those two results were for this thread on ASEANNOW

   Bottom line is that you just want some admiration from someone whilst speaking derogatorily about other people from other Countries .

Wow. I live in Phuket which has far more Israeli tourists visit. Never seen an Israeli bag or heard anyone speak Hebrew. So did you overhear them all speaking Hebrew and carrying Israeli bags?

 

So I guess from your experience in other countries Jews speak the countries language. In that case they must all be carrying Israeli bags yes? Or is there a particular Jewish bag that can label them according to their religion?

Can you distinguish between spoken Hebrew and spoken Arabic?  Or tell the difference between written Hebrew  and Arabic?  On several occasions I know of, Israelis were mistaken for Arabs because people  (Thai and farang) thought they were speaking Arabic.  I guess in the mind of an antisemite, it would be easy to twist things round the other way and mistake Arabs for Israelis.

You don't seem to understand the difference between Israeli & being just Jewish. I lived in a Jewish neighborhood for many years. No, nobody communicated in Hebrew but in the local language or sometimes Yiddish. You still got a lot to learn.

There is a BIG difference in speaking and in writing. Just google it. While some Israelis may look like Arabs because they are Semitic, language is very different.

I know there's a big difference between Hebrew and Arabic,  just like there's a big difference between Thai and Cambodian or between Japanese and Korean.  That doesn't change the fact that many people can't distinguish between them. The question was whether you can  distinguish between Hebrew and Arabic if you hear Hebrew spoken on the street or see it on a bag.

I think Hebrew and Arabic both sounds and look VERY DIFFERENT.

As far as speaking Hebrew, have you heard Hebrew accented English? May as well be Hebrew.

I'm a bit surprised that posters on AN would be so familiar with spoken Hebrew.  Only the 7.2 million Jews in Israel use Hebrew on a daily basis and not all of them have it as their native language.  Where would you have heard spoken Hebrew outside of Israel?   In Pai maybe?

 

I also doubt many people would be able to peg a tourist from Israel solely on the basis of his or her accent when speaking English.   Again, it's a matter of opportunity.  During the nine years I lived in Thailand I only encountered Israeli tourists a handful of times and none of those tourists had a give-away accent when speaking English.

The saving grace of American tourists in the eyes of locals is their tendency to tip well.  That annoys some other tourists, but in general, American tourists are well-behaved in Thailand.  Our bad-boy young men can seldom afford to travel very far abroad.  Few of them have passports.  You  may see them in Canada, Mexico or on one of the Caribbean islands, but they usually stick to vacation spots in the U.S.
