As an Australian, I question whether being allied with America is worth anything.

1/  America is putting 25% tariffs on what we export there.

2/ We are purchasing 3 secondhand nuclear submarines. For the same money, we could have 24 conventional submarines.

3/ We have 3 bases in Australia which are sovereign US territory. Any intelligence shared with us is determined by American policy.

4/ Any intelligence that Australia shares with America could end up anywhere in the world, with the current administration there.

5/ America has repeatedly proved it cannot go the distance in any conflict. It will also sell out anyone

Time to find new allies. America is no longer trustworthy.

I think you are right......

To arm Ukraine sufficiently to seriously damage Russia, causing Putin to give up.

And, who is willing to do that?

Who will pay for those weapons ?

Something like 500 Billion U.S Dollars has already been given to Ukraine

How much more money would it take for Ukraine to win the war ?

What is end game.  Which county is willing to send troops to Ukraine to expel Russia?

Again, no idea, I am posting on a Thai farangy based forum with my own thoughts.

In the past, the World more or less stood shoulder to should too defeat invaders..

Why are you so worried about money, when freedom is at stake, do you complain about the money spent on space exploration...?

Its quite easy to state that 1000 Billion Dollars should be sent to Ukraine without think about where that money will come from .

Whos going to pay for it ?

There are lots of virtual signaling lefties here who stand with Ukraine as long they don't have to do anything.   After three years, you people see that Russia is not leaving unless they are forced to leave, which means boots on the ground from other countries.

I thought the USA was made up of many nationalities from Europe from its inception. It helped out with Hitlers stuff, many others helped the USA out with the Japan thing.

The only thing that has changed is a loopy bloke with bone spurs is in charge...

Even Macron had to point out his latest mistake............🙄

Borrow the money and spend the next 60 years paying it off ?

I will have to be paying that borrowed money back, you will not have to pay that money back

You pay for it then. Trump supporters do not want to. They voted to end the war.

Do you have a link to that as the UK have just announced new sanctions which are widely reported on most news channels.

The young will pay it back. The old won't hence pro war. They don't care about the youth in their own nations. Grandstanding due to leftist Trump hate. Sad retirement selling out their own nations which they deserted.

That is who Trump is and what he does. He shuns our allies, he shuns nations with Democratic rule, and he coddles and supports dictators, despots and those who suppress, kill and oppress their own people.

In addition he's showing an extreme level of heartlessness and a total lack of sympathy for the poor people of the world by shutting down hundreds of USAID programs that benefited the poorest of the poor, at a relatively low cost to the US, and in the process this extremist Grinch has raised the influence of Russia and China significantly around the world.

USAID funds an array of humanitarian projects around the world, including those related to providing clean water, infrastructure, and health care. The State Department provides broad foreign policy goals to USAID, but the agency decides on the specific projects to achieve those goals. Generally, independent private contracting companies bid on the projects that USAID funds.

Congress appropriated $66.1 billion for foreign aid in fiscal year 2023. That works out to 1.2 percent of that year’s total federal expenditure, which was more than $6.1 trillion. USAID administers around 60 percent of foreign aid.

Why Does the United States Provide Assistance to Other Countries? There are many reasons countries provide foreign aid to other nations beyond simply helping people living in poverty or conflict.

Foster positive relations with other countries. A country can leverage the foreign aid it gives, and that resulting relationship, to get preferential treatment later. For example, China has spent nearly $680 billion since 2013 on its Belt and Road Initiative, funding infrastructure projects in 150 different countries. The project is meant to increase Chinese trade and influence around the world.

Promote global stability.

This was the primary goal of the Marshall Plan, when the United States gave Europe $13.3 billion to rebuild after World War II. A stable Europe was economically beneficial to the United States, and there was fear that the Soviet Union could further expand its sphere of influence from Eastern Europe if Western Europe remained fragile.

Prevent the global spread of disease. Treating and preventing diseases from spreading is another way to promote global stability, as diseases (such as COVID-19) can be destabilizing. The United States funds several initiatives to curb infectious diseases; one of the most successful has been the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). The United States has invested over $100 billion in PEPFAR since 2003, providing developing countries facing HIV epidemics with medicine, medical care, and preventative resources.

The United Kingdom paid the United States and Canada back the final WW11 lend lease payment in 2006.

Sanctions have not had the desired effect, forcing the Russian economy onto a war footing in order to compensate, and diplomatic efforts to isolate Russia have proved disastrous, driving the country into the arms of China and North Korea.  The Russians have diversified and found new customers for their oil and natural gas. Yet the EU seems determined to continue down the same failed path; futilely announcing more sanctions and military aid when the moment has passed. Despite the naysayers, it is clearly time for a new approach. Diplomacy is a way of telegraphing this to the Russians and the world.
