So many posters just want Thailand to fail. You old grumpy, sad acts. Well said future P.M G.B. I suggest you go onto You Tube and have a look for videos about Chinese and casinos in Sionoukkville in Cambodia. They absolutely stuffed it. 1 1

There are more and more girls and boys on the streets than ever before. Wages for the « normal » workforce are pitiful, no way these Thais can live on what they earn. Education, if you can call it that, is sadly lacking. Decent living conditions are rare , especially in bigger towns and cities, and workers live in squalid surroundings, 4 to a room. Eating out of 7/11 microwave meals is the norm. Pollution is silently killing so many Thais, and though everyone talks about it , nothing is done . So , I think that anyone who believes that casinos will help the Thais lives on cloud 9. It will bring money to the government coffers, yes, taxes yes. I love Thailand , would love to see a government who really looks after its people. Doubt that will happen anytime soon. There is all that for sure. But Thais don’t help themselves. The wealth destruction from gambling is just incredible. It’s progressed from “just” cock fights, lottery’s and cards to illegal online slots. The amount of money lost is just staggering to me. And then there is drugs and alcohol.🤦♂️ 2

In fact, as usual with any announcement by the Thai government, it is so vague that I have no idea what it's about! Seems to me that it is all about legalizing casinos. Everything else is just camouflage to distract from single controversial fact.
TheFishman1 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago So a few of the very wealthy Thai families will get richer they don’t care what happens to Thailand or the poor people all they care about is one thing TIT

Casinos create poverty on a massive scale....Plus suicides are not uncommon.... 1 1

Gambling is highly enticing when it doesn't matter if you lose it all because you're broke anyway.

So many posters just want Thailand to fail. You old grumpy, sad acts. Hmm, revenue for Government, I can certainly see that. Jobs for Thai people? Well yes, just as when a new hotel opens, jobs are created, but it’s not like casinos are going to be built by the dozens, so the number of new jobs in comparison to the size of the workforce will be minuscule. On the other hand, the scope for corruption and graft is immense. Thailand stands a chance of becoming a worldwide hub for money laundering because the track record of the country for enforcing meaningful regulation is very poor. And that revenue created for the government, that comes from the customers of the casinos. Nobody cares if high roller Chinese lose a packet at a casino, but how about gambling addicts like Thai people? The potential for destruction of middle class wealth is huge. i’m not saying that casinos are all bad. Singapore, Macao and Las Vegas ( although the latter has experienced a period of time when the mob were involved) have shown that they can work well within a community. Equally, the risks involved with casinos when not properly regulated are amply demonstrated elsewhere. 1 1
petedk Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago They can make and pass all the laws they like as none are strictly enforced.

I'm not aware of any posters who are opposed to well-run casinos, nor any who want Thailand to fail. 1
