Wither US Social Security payments?

Recommended Posts

Posted

After watching Musk on a recent vain attempt by Joe Rogan to regain a modicum of popularity he has now lost, I got the distinct impression that the US
Social Security system is soon to be under enormous stress. Reports suggest that over 6,000 employees of the Social Security Administration have

already been relieved of their duties, a fact that should give some US citizens pause over what may become of their monthly payments.

I have no dog in the fight as I am not American and don't even qualify for any pension due to being out of my own country for most of my adult life, but I have several American friends who are highly dependant on SS, no pun intended. Any thoughts on this, or do you see it as just another "conspiracy theory" that will never happen?

SS was never meant to be one's sole source of retirement funds. Unfortunately due to poor planning SS is the only lifeline many have.

SS was designed to replace about 40% of the average worker's income.

One thing that can be said with certainty, for Americans with business to do with SS, including missing payments, and suspension of benefits, it's going to go from very bad to unspeakably bad as far as access to a human being to get service.

Uh oh.

Social Security Payments Could Be Interrupted For First Time In 80 Years

Social Security, the bedrock of safety net payments to 61 million Americans, could be interrupted by personnel cuts made by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). It could create an economic catastrophe, at least for those who rely heavily on the funds.

The 61 million people who receive Social Security payments include retirees, people with disabilities, and their dependents and survivors. Last year, total annual costs were $1.6 trillion, making it the largest expense of the federal government.

The average payment to retirees, 52 million recipients, is just short of $2,000 a month. These payments make up about a third of the incomes of Americans who are over 65. The number is much higher for some. According to the Social Security Administration, “Among Social Security beneficiaries age 65 and older, 12% of men and 15% of women rely on Social Security for 90% or more of their income.”

Then you go on to say you have no dog in the fight. Pathetic...  BTW, hasn't Joe had his  best 5 months ever in regards to veiwers?

Mainstream Media scare tactics; remember, MSNBC derived from Microsoft and NBC, and here's MSN continuing the tradition. The left has nothing left.

Sure, SS could crash for a million reasons, but it's more probable that it'll be due to exponentially escalating debt, stock market crashing, lack of funds, etc.

You'll worry yourself to death if you keep reading this tripe. Or is that your plan B because the big financial reset will most likely occur during your, and my, remaining lifetime.

DOGE is cutting fast and deep, which is required at this late point being 36T in debt, and I'm all in that they're trying, but I don't have much faith that real spending, by either party, will be curtailed.

Thank goodness Musk doesn't have to pay Social Security Tax on his earnings above $ 176,100 this year.

Trump's past tax cuts added $ 10 T to the debt.

The proposed tax cuts will add another $ 4 T to the debt (conservative estimate).

But do go on.

DOGE savings are estimated to be ~ less than 10% which Elon "claims".

Your chosen nickname seems ironic, considering your combative attitude. Do you think everyone outside the US has to be neutral about having a Russian ally as President of the USA?  What are "veiwers" by the way...is that a new spelling suggested by your golden comb over King?  Oh, with regard to your comment about Joe Rogan's popularity, I suggest you look here: https://www.newsweek.com/joe-rogan-podcast-slipping-charts-third-2037713

OK, chill. I'm not a fan of his combover also. Why do some get so angry?  Feel free to throw more insults at other individuals and myself while being non-combative 🙂

I didn't say that. Maybe read the item before hurling stupid flames.

Well, you did. Selective cuts will be made and at this point nobody knows where nor the amount.  Do you think the SS system doesn't need to be improved and waste be eliminated?

But, but, but I heard them all promise they wouldn't touch social security, medicare or medicaid. Medicaid is currently being gutted, SS next then medicare. Not a big deal for me but all the high school educated MAGA morons that rely on SS will be thrown under the bus.

Francis Perkins would kick Elon and Rogan's ass.

What a Confederacy of Dunces this pair makes.

I feel sorry for their gullible audience.

MeidasTouch overtakes The Joe Rogan "experience"...

Oh, Joe is only relevant if he is number one? Weird logic but have at it. I rarely watch his podcasts but he doesn't seem to be doing that bad 🙂

Nothing wrong with being Number 2.
