A group of nearly 30 foreign holidaymakers faced a harrowing ordeal when their speedboat began taking on water during their journey from Koh Lipe to Phuket. The incident occurred near Koh Poda Nok, off the Krabi coast, as the vessel was battered by powerful waves, resulting in a significant leak.

The quick response of Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park proved crucial. A park patrol boat, along with the Nanthicha 333 speedboat, was dispatched to the scene to rescue the stranded tourists aboard the Siriwan Marine 5 speedboat.

Despite the nationalities of the 28 tourists remaining undisclosed, all were safely evacuated to Maya Bay on March 10. It was reported that the relentless waves had damaged the boat's underbelly, preventing the skipper from navigating toward Koh Phi Phi due to rising water levels within the craft.

Thankfully, all passengers reached the serene shores of Maya Bay unharmed, where they awaited a replacement vessel to continue their journey to Phuket. The incident highlights the importance of swift rescue operations and effective safety measures in ensuring the well-being of travelers exploring the region's beautiful waters, reported The Thaiger.

In a dramatic turn of events on Monday, 29 tourists were rescued after their speedboat began leaking en route from Koh Lipe to Phuket. The incident occurred off the coast of Krabi province, near Koh Poda Nok, when the bottom of the Siriwan Marine 5 speedboat started taking on water due to rough seas.

The tourists were swiftly assisted by a patrol boat from Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park and the Nanthicha 333 speedboat. Though the tourists' nationalities were not disclosed, the timely intervention averted a potential disaster.

The rescue team managed to get all tourists ashore safely, temporarily transferring them to the famed Maya Bay. There, they awaited another vessel to complete their journey to Phuket. Officials reported that the skipper was unable to navigate to Koh Phi Phi because of the continuous water intake, emphasising the severity of the situation.

Such incidents underline the importance of safety measures and readiness in tourist hotspots like the Andaman Sea, ensuring visitors can enjoy their travels with peace of mind, reported Bangkok Post.

Is there no authority checking the boats carrying passengers for "sea safety"?

2 electric pumps and additional hand pumps is a minimum to prevent such incidents.

The qualifications for a "captain" are far too low also.

In the words of the old song (altogether now)

Forty kilometers in a leaky old boat,
Any old thing that'll stay afloat.
When we arrive we'll all promote romance, romance, romance

Q:  Are passengers given life-jackets on boarding?

The last time I was on a ferry to Phi Phi I searched everywhere for a life jacket. When I asked one of the deckies he said no ploblem captain good man ..he no sink boat.I was very much relieved after that.

That was a mmerable jouney to Phi Phi as I went up to the top deck to get some fresh air and the crew were in the wheelhouse and  the skipper were  drinking whiskey and playing cards.
