All these tariffs are doing is attracting counter tariffs that attract more counter tariffs that result in more and more and more in a never ending cycle.

Why not just say Im not trading with you any more you are all treating us really badly so all imports and exports are banned.

America only has 4.22% of the worlds population which leaves the other 95.78% to trade among themselves peacefully.

How much of all trade is consumed by America?

President Trump threatened the EU with a 200% tariff on imported wines, champagnes, and other alcoholic products if the bloc did not remove a duty on whiskey.

He posted on his Truth Social platform:

The European Union, one of the most hostile and abusive taxing and tariffing authorities in the World, which was formed for the sole purpose of taking advantage of the United States, has just put a nasty 50% Tariff on Whisky. If this Tariff is not removed immediately, the U.S. will shortly place a 200% Tariff on all WINES, CHAMPAGNES, & ALCOHOLIC PRODUCTS COMING OUT OF FRANCE AND OTHER E.U. REPRESENTED COUNTRIES. This will be great for the Wine and Champagne businesses in the U.S.

Psst, Trump, the US doesn't have a champagne business, since champagne is produced in France only. At best the US has some mediocre sparkling wine.

Well done and congratulations. You posted an OP which does nothing to prove the opinion posited in the thread title.

Absolutely. Lots of folks have to give up for health, financial or emotional reasons but to never start is really pliss poor in my view.

Like taking a vow of chastity.

I started to be like everyone else, but when I realised that consuming a poison that made me act like an idiot and gave me a headache was silly I gave it up.

I've probably saved thousands of $ by not drinking alcoholic beverages. My liver certainly benefited.

In terms of nasty and reckless moves, one that stands out for me is the gutting of U.S.A.I.D., because it’s illegal and because it’s so flagrantly immoral and utterly self-destructive.

During the first Trump term, I would sometimes have to catch myself because even though I thought and think that Trump is uniquely despicable and dangerous, the fact remains that if you just want to look at the number of lives lost and global damage done, George W. Bush really outstripped him. Trump is maybe a worse person, but the damage that he did in his first term was much more contained.

I think that in the second Trump term he’s changed that very quickly. Not just by taking America’s soft power and setting it on fire in all sorts of ways, but really making these abrupt decisions that are going to kill hundreds of thousands and maybe more than a million people and he’s doing it in this incredibly arbitrary, careless way.

I don’t think he has a coherent value structure as most of us understand it. I think we’re seeing a president who’s operating without anything any of us would recognize as a conscience. Truly.

It is about showing what he can get away with. It’s about showing his enemies that what they support, he can tear down. It is all about displays of brute strength. He gets off on that, and in that sense, it seems not so much an autocracy but a flexocracy. Let me show you how I can flex my bicep as I use it to power my fist coming into your face.

It’s not about any coherent values. It’s not about any North Star. It’s about showing that you can turn the boat 180 degrees around and that you can do whatever you want and you can bring the people who opposed you to their knees.

You don't get it. Trump is deliberately sowing chaos, it's what he does, he sees it as making it easier for him to take over. Divide and conquer. Don't get me wrong, he's still a mόron, but he knows a few tricks as a con artist which he's good at. That doesn't take any brains. He's just tossing grenades and blowing things up, blindly serving all who have paid him.

Really?and what does piss taste like?

Apparently like American sparkling wine. Not that I've ever drunk American sparkling wine. If I ever want to know what piss tastes like I have my own to try.

BTW, for those that do want to find out what American sparkling wine tastes like, piss can be safely drunk as it's not poisonous.

No, you can't eat the other. Hepatitis is not fun and people laugh at you because you are yellow.

You could be like in a movie I saw and eat bits of yourself. Who needs legs anyway?

Seriously, we all eat far too much and we can last weeks without eating. Without drinking it's game over quite quickly. I don't know how many times we can drink our own urine before it dries up though.

Did you see the Costner movie Waterworld? The opening scene had him drinking his own urine, though one would think it was reasonably easy to desalinate the water he was floating on instead, using sunshine, a bucket and a piece of glass.

Champagne selling businesses you mean, which will run dry soon, because the Champagne region in France is the only place in the world that produces champagne.

You want to discuss IQ's?

Obviously, in Trump’s mind, just part of the plot to abuse the USA. He is hypocrisy personified … (OK, among other items personified).

You are going to be great at parties for the next 4 years, NOT.

You probably think Harris would have been a good president :cheesy:.

American sparking wine tastes like piธธ

The U.S. makes a sparkling wine identical to Champagne. Winemakers in regions like California, Oregon, or New York can use the same grapes, méthode champenoise, and meticulous aging processes to create a product indistinguishable in quality or taste. Places like Napa Valley have climates and soils that can rival Champagne’s terroir, and producers like Schramsberg or Domaine Carneros craft high-end sparkling wines that compete with the French stuff blind-tasting-wise. But legally, they’d call it "sparkling wine" or something like "Methode Champenoise Sparkling Wine" unless they’re grandfathered in.

Trump stupidity has been well documented by several of his own cabinet members. The mental illness has also been clearly documented. The second term is not improving the assessments.

you have no idea:post-4641-1156694572:....I think it's more like you with the IQ issue!

Before you start thinking you can buy real Champagne made in the United States, you can't. Wineries in the United States don't make Champagne, they make sparkling wine. It must be produced under specific regulations and can only be labeled as Champagne if it is made from grapes grown in this France region! Need a break?🥱

Are you serious? Sounds like you have problem with competition, and just need the US to be the only one with power. Think again! The world doesn´t work that way. Right now, Trump is helping your country straight into failure! Concentrate on that instead.

Canada just announced that in response to Trump's trade war and betrayal of a neighbor and trusted ally, they are going to restrict access through British Columbia to and from Alaska, and they're going to start taxing US trucks going back and forth. It's a wonderful idea, and it's a great way to punish America for its absolute staggering level of stupidity.

Let's go Canada!!

It wouldn't be hard to have the vehicles form into convoys when they pass thru, using the highway we built, and send 3 or 4 marines as a military escort.

That should be enough to handle any response by the Canadian military as they blow through any checkpoints..

Take out the lead truck, a convoy grinds to a halt. The Russian found that out trying to take Kiev.

Americans do have an inflated view of their military capabilities. Apparently Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan taught them nothing.

You think 3 or 4 marines can protect 2400 km of road?  You think trucks won't need to refuel?

What a breathtakingly stupid post..

Just like a leftist moron to take my post as serious suggestion. It would actually take a full platoon of marines.

As for needing to refuel I think they would just stop at a petrol station. I assume Canada has those.

Sure, that will guarantee that there will be no champagne available for his buddies, because imports will come to a halt. What they gonna drink, sparkling apple cider?

Only someone with the mindset of a 10 year old would post a picture to make his point.

Seems like just about nobody knows about wine in the US.

And Trump is no exception.☺️

He is holding his glass exactly, but exactly the way it should not be held.

But then perhaps he is a cognac drinker, since that would be the right way to hold a cognac glass.

Amuses me to watch all these movies made in Hollywood, by rich people. All the same, holding the glass wrongly.

Then it shows that people with high intelligence and having great fortune, like Trump and actors, in the US, will not include a sommelier course in their general knowledge.
