Granted, it's probably fairly difficult for those of us who have sanity and rational minds to even conceive of preying upon children. The harshest penalties possible should be applied to these twisted and demented souls.

He could not have "ridden out his years" here. If you read the Independent article that @Moonloverlinked to, they had already tracked him down in Thailand using AI-based facial recognition technology and Cheshire Police had started the process for extradition.

Basically,he’s won. Lived a fine life totally free for decades and now when he’s likely only got a couple of years left at an age when he just wants to sit around anyway ,returns to an effective care home -all meals,medical and bed provided- to gently see himself out. Who’d swap that for a long prison stretch in middle age..?

So how come the police were waiting for him at Heathrow? To do that they would have had to know his assumed ID and his travel details. I'm quite sure it wasn't just luck that they were waiting there on that particular day.

 

Try reading this account below in the Ledbury Reporter. In particular have a good look at the matching ID photos the police used to finally nail him.

Agree with this one @Chongalulu the depraved pervert has lived out his entire life in one of the nicest countries in the world, as much as he may not see out Gen Pop in the clink he probably doesn't care and doesn't have that long left anyways, gripes me that someone that has done that will die thinking they have won.

Tell this to all those tree huggers and do gooders - I still advocate the gallows for pedophiles, rapists and drug dealers. The damages done by those culprits cannot be undone but you would avoid - guaranteed - any future repetition of "misbehaviour" while saving the tax payers hard earned money.

"He was caught at Heathrow Airport after surveillance by Thai police" which means he was being watched in Thailand and would likely have been captured here, but it was easier to follow him to the plane using documents and have the Brits waiting for him, rather than deal with the complications of extradition proceedings.

I don't think this kind of degenerate fears the gallows. In many cases it might be a quick way out.

Thanks for the link.  So according to the artilce he had developed cancer and a heart condition,  and by all accounts was looking for medical treatment. Sorry to burst your bubble inspector Eleanor Atkinson, but he won. While he will be waiting for trial he will be treated to 5 star medical treatment at the expense of the UK tax payers.

You seem to be under some delusion that everybody in the UK who has a life threatening illness will receive 5 star medical treatment. Sorry to disillusion you, but that's not aways the case. The NHS carry out a screening process before deciding whether elderly patients qualify for expensive treatment.

 

To put it bluntly, I very much doubt whether a convicted paedophile, who is likely to spend the rest of his life jail would receive anything more basic medical care.
