Man, 64, Reenacts Brutal Murder of girlfriend in Rubber Plantation
Picture courtesy of Workpoint. Police have led a 64-year-old man through a crime scene reenactment after he confessed to murdering one of his partners in a rubber plantation in Betong district, Yala. The suspect, Mr. Weerasak, admitted to the crime and revealed his motive. Officers from Betong Police Station, led by Pol Lt Col Sakrapee Wuttisak and Pol Lt Col Monop Damdaeng, took the suspect to several key locations related to the murder of Ms. Nittaya, 45, who was killed on March 17. The reenactment covered six locations: 1. A roadside pavilion at KM 19, where the victim and suspect met. 2. A house within a rubber plantation, three kilometres from the Yala-Betong Road. 3. The murder site, 70 metres from the house. 4. A location where the suspect burned the victim’s clothes. 5. A site where he removed and discarded the victim’s motorbike registration plate and mirrors. 6. A friend’s house in Sub Anan Alley, Yarom subdistrict, where he left the victim’s motorbike. During questioning, Mr. Weerasak claimed he had five girlfriends, with Ms. Nittaya being the fifth. Although he loved her, they did not live together as she was already married. They met only occasionally. On the day of the murder, the couple argued about 50,000 baht that the victim had taken and her unfulfilled promise to move in with him. After the initial confrontation, Mr. Weerasak returned home on his motorbike, but Ms. Nittaya later followed. Another heated argument ensued, during which Ms. Nittaya ended their relationship and walked away. The suspect followed, pleading with her to reconsider, but she refused. In a fit of rage, he slapped her once and then punched her hard, causing her to fall face-first and lose consciousness. Mr. Weerasak watched her for five minutes but, seeing no movement, assumed she was dead. He went to fetch a hoe to bury her, but the soil was too hard to dig. Noticing she was still moving slightly, he struck her on the head with the hoe, killing her. Eleven days later, on March 27, a local searching for forest products discovered the decomposed body and alerted the police. Investigators swiftly identified and arrested the suspect, who will now face prosecution. -- 2025-04-02 -
