Thailand's Prisons Overflow as Overcrowding Hits Alarming Level

Historically, there have been movies made, articles and reports about the reputation and conditions in these prisons.   Stupid people get arrested then they complain about it.  Tough luck.

I have no issue with this... P'Thaksin was on the money back in his hey day.

I know a lady who's boyfriend got shot by the police for nothing during the purge. Many innocent people were killed.

The people who can't afford a decent lawyer will be sent to jail.. That is why jails are overcrowded even for a minor offence you get jailtime, as we can read here on Aseannow and many other websites. They should start with electronic ankle bands for minor offences and the real criminals murders and robbers should be jailed. But someone who as we could read last week drove on the wrong side of the road doesn't need to get a 4 month jailtime, but confiscate his motorcycle and and forbid him to drive which can be easily controlled by his ankle band... But Thai justice system is just a lot of other things outdated and very conservative and other opportunities are never concerned.  Let them do community service for several hours as another example...And the ones who need to go to jail can spend their time in a hospital without any consequences

First you would need police officers that actually work... The offenders that had money would just pay to either have it removed and have their freedom, or just pay off the officers if they responded to an alert. For anyone that didn't have money, the officers wouldn't bother responding to an alert from the ankle monitor because there wouldn't be any money in it for them.

I'll take a "guess" .. and bet that it's well known where the "drugs" come from   .. so it seems the pipeline is what really needs to be stopped

that goes along with the "possibility" that pocket lining is a major driving factor ..

Time for some sic humor ...

Also ......Though things like menstrual product supply have improved

possible they stole an idea from Tim Walz ?    back in the US

Walz signed mandating free menstruation products in all public school restrooms  the law applying to all restrooms, regardless of gender marker,  menstrual products would be available in “little boys bathrooms.”

Vice-President of FIDH, Fatia Maulidiyanti, called for immediate reforms. She stressed that harsher drug laws could inflate prison numbers and advised prioritising rehabilitation over punishment in line with global norms

So move the rehabilitation centres to the prisons, or build  some.

I agree in principle, but it's far too easy to punish innocent people, so have to be 100% sure that they are guilty, ie people fall out, drugs get planted, police get called.

Git er done..... thats 364 new beds !

Also... maybe don't give someone with 3 yaba pills a 20yrs sentence, shorter sentence will reduce over crowding.

Despite a fall in drug convictions over the past three years, 73% of inmates remain imprisoned for drug-related offences, with new drug laws potentially worsening the issue.

Making something legal will create a fall in drug convictions.

I dont want to blame dope being legal but its proven to be very unhealthy.

The strength of the dope is not monitored, and very strong THC can turn users into paranoid idiots and all sorts of other reactions, as can alcohol.

I always said wait and see what happens it will all be bad and I think its gone that way.

Some one was already growing acres off it b4 the law changed ,it was never about medical use it was about money all along.

This country has turned into a nut house, worse than I have ever seen since coming here in 2003.

Shortening sentences for minor crimes is a good idea.

Other than that Mr. bright, dope grower can build private prisons just like the USA and convict people for nothing crimes to fill them up and make MONEY < MONEY and more MONEY>

This is a dangerous country controlled by, you guessed it , MONEY

Try fining motorists without helmets and speeding and out of control noisy mufflers, get cops on the road, start looking at murder as suicides, which creates murderers, .

Now you can slag me for staying here, but despite all this would you live in the USA or Canada and even Aussie now, NZ food prices are out of control, DR,s are fighting each other over covid comments , it's a sh---t house world but I would rather keep a low profile and be here than in Israel or many other stuffed up countries.
