You are mistaken. There is substantial infrastructure damage across the city. MRT, BTS and many many condos with huge cracks and possibly to be condemned. This is very serious.

I am sure there is damage - it was a large earthquake! I don't see widespread damage at all.

Where's your evidence that the MRT and BTS have huge cracks and are possibly to be condemned? Care to share please. Both are running today after extensive checks yesterday.

The crane moving around forcefully , the crane was moving with some power .

The crane seems to have weakened the whole precast side of the building and it caused the bottom pillars to collapse and then the whole building came down

As I watched the thousands of people fleeing in the streets and all those tall buildings looming 360 degrees it's so wonderful that 1 didn't come down into the crowded streets.    Looking like renting a condo is much better than buying.   I wonder how many expats  lost their accommodations?

I'm impressed that only one building fell down.

The way my home in CM was shaking I'm impressed it didn't fall down either.

I was thinking same.

Surely there are many other building under construction in BKK.

Why didn't they fall down?

And existing buildings seemed to have fared fairly well, at least for now.

Seems like there must be some massive issue with the construction materials of the fallen building or it is a case of a number of factors that produced the worst example of bad luck ever seen.

watch again, no pancake... the whole structure seemed to collapse.

Yes, and the World Trade Centers were different design, where the support was the outside metal cage structure. This building has multiple support beams on each floor, I'm betting more on the cause being cheap concrete. In fact, wasn't this the same issue with Thai-Italia working on Rama II? Why is the government using this company for anything?!

In Italy maybe, but not here. And do you remember the Morandi Bridge collapse in 2018?

Thankfully no Italian construction here.

Same here in Nonthaburi, it felt like the townhouse was on Jello wobbling all over, enough that when I stood up from the kitchen table I almost lost balance.

Wife says lots of Thai's are thinking corruption in the government building that collapsed.    I'm wondering if an unfinished building may not have all the earth quake devices installed yet?    The videos of those tall buildings seating is incredible.  It will be interesting how many residences will be condemned.   Maybe now Thailand will be forced to deal with real humanitarian issues.

Superficial damage. The amount those tall buildings moved surely some tiles and plaster falling off is to be expected.

What's your point?

If that's superficial damage you need your head examined.

Or you "own" a condo 🤣

Italian-Thai has nothing to do with Italy.

Italian–Thai Development PCL is the umbrella company of Italthai Group although Italthai management insists that, "The management of the Italthai Group and its subsidiaries have nothing whatsoever to do with Italian-Thai Development"[4] Italthai is a group of privately-owned businesses connected to Italian–Thai Development PCL. Its businesses are construction equipment,[5] construction,[6] hospitality,[7] and lifestyle.[8] The group employs more than 5,000 employees in seven countries across Asia Pacific.[9

Six out of how many thousand high rises? It is a tiny tiny percentage. And yes, there will be more to come out, but still nearly all buildings behaved excellently.

As I said in another reply it was an unprecedented event - a huge earthquake. But overall the city seems to have survived remarkably well, the majority of structures are just fine.

From reading some posters hysteric nonsense on here you would think half the city had collapsed. One under construction building collapsed.

That's 6 that were declared unsafe to live in within hours of it before any detailed checks.

There's extensive damage to the many other high rises.

It might just be superficial but it's very likley more will be condemed.

Bankgkok is built on soft clay and corruption is rife - some that are now unsafe were only finished very recently.

No one will be buying these condos for a while, will impact many jobs. The UK cladding issue on condos is so minor compared to this and has caused so many problems for the last 5+ years.

Apparently it's better if the buildings sway, the building that collapsed didn't seem to move at all
