Will go before I require dialysis.

I didn't realize you were ill...

I sympathize with anyone going through a hard time, having been through many myself.

I wish you all the best, Ralf.

I hope so, a rear passenger is more likely to kill a front passenger wearing a seat belt in a head on smash,

Very informative/educational video.

You are not only putting yourself at risk by not wearing one, but others too..

I don’t wear them either unless I am on a long trip and doing 140km p/h +

Never had a problem.

Driving around in traffic not going over 80 they don’t do much.

They are over rated. You can unplug the annoying beeper thing under the seat.

Also and lot of lakes, ponds, rivers etc in Thailand. If you end up in one you could drown if you couldn’t get the seatbelt undone.

Do Thais just not like them?

Are they averse to wearing them?

Does putting your seat belt on in Thailand as a passenger make the driver lose face by insinuating that he/she may have an accident, and therefore isn't capable enough behind the wheel?

I've even heard stories of Thais cutting the seat belt buckles off in a new car as they believe that something supernatural will protect them anyway, so why bother?...

I also know plenty of Thais who never wear their seat belts, even when driving home drunk...

You are so funny bobbydon, Say you live in Kobe Japan but only post about Thailand 24/7. Say you are at a wedding at a beach resort but spend all day pounding the keyboard with fabricated stories. Poor poor pitiful you...

Many who have passed to the next life thought using amulets protected them. Superstition is rampant here, and you'll never convince them ghosts can't hurt or praying to a statue will help them win lotteries.

That many seem to drive into canals here still isn't a reason to not wear a seat belt. Plain ignorance because getting thrown out of a flipping car is almost surely a death sentence. The chances of driving into a lake or river is so remote it's not worth worrying about. You can easily unbuckle if that happens. With you're thoughts about driving drunk, you aren't only taking your life in your hands but those of innocents around you. If any of my family were ever hurt by a drunk driver the only safety they would have is a life sentence.

My saying is, you put your seatbelt on in the US to avoid a ticket. In thailand you do it to save your life.

i dont know how many thais put their seatbelts on, i know the ones ive been around never did, nor my wifes family put the seatbelt on my child which made me very angry

I will not drive one metre with family unless ''all safe'.

Even our 4 year old now sees the seatbelt light on the dash and says 'safe safe'.

They both live in the USA at 27 years old I am not really telling them what to do.

What the hell does Thai politics have to do with your constant streams of lies?

I've shown them videos of what happens in accidents where rear passengers aren't wearing belts - makes no difference.

However, as its me that's likely to be killed by a flying body from the rear - I simply refuse to move until everyone has their belts on.  Fortunately my new truck has rear belt sensors so I know if they take them off again.

I got into a cab here, put my belt on immediately and the driver then said, "Why are you insulting me and my driving skills?" So I would posit that some here do think that it is a reflection on the driver. Given that most men around the planet over estimate the quality of their driving skills, your observation is far from wrong.

Which is precisely what happens.
