Hey there fellow "Motorheads" , quick question for the forum! Planning to get a new bigbike soon with red number plates. Has anyone experienced any issues with the police ("boys in brown") when riding a new bike with red plates out of your registered province? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers in advance 🙂

I suppose its the same as with a red plated car   you should write down your out of province travel plans in the brown book ?   or not and just pay the fine if they make an issue of it  "up to you"

I have had 3-4 new bikes over the years, ok small bikes, none have red plates, cannot say I have seen a big bike with red plates.

All my new bikes I ride around for up to 3 months waiting for the plates to arrive, never been stopped by the police, as a bike with no plates.

I apologise about my ignorance but what is the "Brown Book "???

Apparently  its a book that you are supposed to write plans of trips at night or into a different province,   though I have never had or seen one  supplied by the vehicle dealership I think.

I had a red plate on a motorcycle that I bought in Phuket. All other bikes I've bought (all in Bangkok) have had no plate until the real one arrives. I think red plates on new motorcycles is just a Phuket thing but maybe other forum members can correct me on that?

Either way, I just ride them as normal until the real plate arrives. Multiple provinces, before and after dark etc. Never had an issue. I just carry the proof of purchase and por lor bor until the tax/plate is delivered. I don't think it's one of the laws that is extensively enforced.
