How come they don't understand that week-long water throwing is actually bad for business?

When people get soaked in water, they don't go into restaurants, bars or clubs. And many avoid going out altogether! Either way, businesses lose a lot of money.

How is it possible to be so stupid and not understand this?

How is it possible to be so stupid that you don't understand the reason for the celebration and can't see the money being made ?

The foreigner assaulted a Thai woman

You state fact when even the photo says and the vdo does not show the man striking a woman. Perhaps he was only belligerent to her or insulting her. To state fact he struck her still does not give the right for someone to arrive later to strike down the man in an apparent assualt especially when he is there to disperse problems, not create them more. The situation was supposed to be handled by police which I doubt were even called. They are usually near Soi 6 because of the many problems there already.

The VDo clearly shows the man was attacked first. You make supposition something more happened prior to that. But that situation was not relevant since the man had walked away and was goaded on and basically surrounded by the other drinks.

I like the way the problem was dealt with and so did the hundreds of on lookers.

Looks like you are the odd one out here.

Maybe Thailand is not for you.

i'm not sure i'm on board with street justice.

someone can get killed or seriously injured.

girl was hit? she needs to call the police and file a report.

not sure where this comes from. they think the police would be too lenient with the foreigner?

Hmmm wonder what time the grocers open and what time the chaos begins.  Maybe some should be cautious using the idiot term.  🙄

Foodland is open 24/7. Two locations. Not being able to shop is not a good excuse.

Pattaya just ruins the holiday.  Pity they don't understand if it was organized and contained to certain areas and times it would attract MORE tourists.

Nah, I doubt it. Traffic would still get snarled up so might as well just unleash the Kraken.

"Thailand is basking in the glow of a tourist boom as the Songkran festival draws an impressive 666,000 international visitors, reports revealed on Tuesday. The nation welcomed roughly 10.7 million tourists in 2025, raking in a whopping 510 billion baht from tourism-related income this year."

I did songkran in Pattaya once back in 2005.  It was my third trip to the country since 2004.  I found it very unpleasant.  Sure an afternoon or a day or two frolicking around in a bathing suit and playing with water is kind of fun, but not for a week.  I like to walk around, go out to eat, ride the baht bus around town, go shopping etc.  Absolutely a royal pain getting soaked all the time going out.   I had no desire to splash water and stand among crowds for 5 or 6 days straight!

One thing I noticed, and this is probably a good thing is the way many Thais literally attacked foreigners with water.  I think they were venting or releasing some anger.  Its probably ok they do that with water than with other ways.  No doubt some Thais resent many foreigners, especially ones that brag about their status, or laugh or make fun of some Thai things which of course is horrible to do.

You'll do well to get past Soi 7/8 area of Beach Road dry in a baht bus. Let us know how you get on. 😁

I went today. Went early and it was actually pretty quiet. Went mainly by win bikes and there seems an unwritten law to not splash them -I doubt they care about the passengers but the drivers are out all day. It was after 1pm when I left and not actually that crazy  but mainly stayed away from the beach.
