A horrifying drug-fuelled domestic attack in Ban Dung district, Udon Thani, has left a 31-year-old woman dead, her mother severely injured, and a local community in shock. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Mr. Anucha, was subdued by neighbours after he allegedly murdered his wife in an outburst triggered by drug-induced paranoia.

The incident occurred in the early hours of 14 April. Police, led by Pol. Lt. Isaret Prasomphuet and Pol. Col. Pongpan Nakhwa of Ban Dung Police Station, responded to reports of a man violently assaulting his wife and mother-in-law at a family home. Rescue workers from Sawang Maotham Foundation were also dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, authorities found the lifeless body of Ms. B 31, inside the residence. Her body bore multiple stab wounds to the face and torso. Her right thumb and index finger had been severed, her hair had been forcibly shaved, and there were signs of trauma to her eyes. Police also discovered a blood-stained 15-inch knife, a chisel, and a homemade gun at the scene.

The victim’s mother, who had attempted to intervene, suffered a deep laceration to her arm and was rushed to Somdej Phra Yuparat Ban Dung Hospital in critical condition, from blood loss. The couple’s 3-year-old child was also present, covered in blood but not physically injured.

Mr. Anucha, still hallucinating when police apprehended him, admitted to taking two yaba pills out of a batch of ten he had bought in Khon Kaen. He claimed to believe his wife was unfaithful and that people were plotting to kill him, prompting the violent attack.

“I warned them not to play with the system. I know what they’ve done to me,” he rambled during questioning. “I was just trying to find out the truth. My wife betrayed me.”

Locals revealed that Anucha, a construction contractor, had arrived in Udon Thani from Khon Kaen on 6 April with his wife and child to visit his mother-in-law. Though previously known as a stable family man, neighbours believe the potent effects of the yaba, which he admitted to chewing rather than ingesting in a typical manner, triggered a psychotic incident.

The attack reportedly began with a loud argument, followed by cries for help. Neighbours intervened and were able to restrain Anucha until police arrived. Witnesses expressed their horror at the brutality of the assault and sympathy for the victims.

Later the same morning, it was reported that Mr. Anucha attempted to injure himself in custody by banging his head against the cell door, causing a severe head wound. He was transferred to Somdej Phra Yuparat Ban Dung Hospital for medical treatment.

Police confirmed that Mr. Anucha is in custody and faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and drug-related offences. An investigation is ongoing.

Sympathy for the victims but stories like these highlight the mental stress many natives are under.

The elite and many in control are content with the Land of Smiles, Thainess hub BS as it hides the truth so conveniently.

Yet so many of society do not succumb to the 'stresses' and maintain a solid family - we just hear the tragedies such as this in the news.

How horrific it must have been for the mother to watch her daughter murdered as 'nasty-drugs' tear apart another family.

If he wanted a release, surely a joint would have been a better option - there was no mention if he had taken Yaba before, but the story seems to give the impression this was a first time use.

So she cheated on him?

No, the story suggest the Yaba made him delusional...   believing his wife was unfaithful and that people were plotting to kill him....

But he was questioned after he sobered up presumably? And then said he thought she cheated on him? When he was sober. Or did I misunderstand something?

I agree with the joint v yaba argument but I think the yaba explains more.

A stable person would take a beer, ciggie or joint and take a breather but if he is taking yaba it would "suggest" he must need a complete block out and at rock bottom prices. Either that or he's reached his destiny already. I might be entirely wrong and he could be a selfish so n so but equally it could have been a way out that a counselling service could have helped avoid.

I'm not entirely sure the many we see as stable are just that or more a case of treading water until it starts to crumble. The debts, inequality, limited chances to progress and overall struggles many face on an annual basis must have consequences down the line.

But yep, we only hear news when it's tragic or shocking which is why I tend to avoid the mainstream news now.
