Musk is attempting to amass a bit of wealth, and really not that MUCH wealth, in pursuit of his stated goal.

His goal has always been to get to Mars.

I agree with his goal.

400 Billion USD is a paltry sum, compared to the trillions being wasted by governments, these days.

============

In addition, if Musk is able to decrease waste in government spending, then there will be far more money available to feed the poor.

As it stands now, there are just too many bloodsuckers who do not need the money, interfering with money that should go to the poor

But, you might not realize this if you listen to the SPIN that you often hear from news organizations that I imagine you are listening to.

Stop with the repetition of rumors you hear...and...instead....

JUST STATE THE FACTS, Man.....

Where is your data to support your BOGUS claims....I do wonder.....

Because, so far, you have not COUGHED UP even a SHRED of evidence to support your claims.

So.....Just give us the data....and then...

We will be convinced.

Easy as that, really.

You have NOT done your homework.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK....PLEASE......

Don't be a lazy commenter.....

Do the work.

The fact that you’re here, in your unfettered delirium, championing a fascist Nazi lunatic, someone the entire rational world sees as an existential threat to humanity, is as deranged as Musk’s own maniacal descent into madness. You’re not just misguided, you’re unhinged. And no one’s going to give you a pass when you try to whitewash a dangerous, powerful madman into some kind of heroic demagogue.

You complain about mistreatment and wonder why people don’t respond positively to you on this forum. Well, let this serve as a clear example of why. People remember things like this. So the next time you post something that isn’t quite as vile or reprehensible, don’t act surprised when the peanut gallery doesn’t roll out a warm welcome.

This is going to be a very rough ride, during the next 10 years.

For Sure....!!!!

A question for American expats retired to Thailand.

Do you, as US citizens residing in Thailand, receive any federal assistance?

If you do, aren't you worried about being the next target of cost slashing by the current administration?

Someone like MTG would probably happily refer to you as traitors.

He is a total social misfit, and is not wearing his wealth, nor his power lightly. Musk appears to have extremist tendencies. I am hoping he goes on one of his Mars missions, but we all know he does not have nearly enough courage for something like that. I have respect for his achievements, but zero respect for the small man.

He's a completely ridiculous man, the more wealthy he's become the more obnoxious he's become, the more arrogant he's become, the more self-righteous and the more insufferable. Trump made a tremendous mistake by giving him more power than he already had, and time will reveal what a tragic decision that was.

Boycott Tesla, don't buy anything that he is associated with, knock him off his pedestal, bring him back down to earth, try to knock some sense into his absolutely foolish head, and take some pride in doing the right thing and helping America.

Musk has Asperger's Syndrome. At least that's what he said when he hosted Saturday Night Live. A now somewhat outdated term, the current thinking seems to be that it's a condition that belongs somewhere on the Autism scale. An Autism Spectrum Disorder.  In any event, it's a cheap shot to criticize Musk without making some effort to understand the condition and how it can affect a person's perception of the world, his ability to focus and achieve, and how he interacts with others on every level.

One time I had to look into Asperger's for a case I was working on. Each individual is different, of course, but a common thread seems to be that the individual has average or above average intelligence, among other characteristics.  You should probably look it up.  And once you do that, you might be able to understand Musk, his apparent social awkwardness,  and the apparent disparity between his achievements and what you characterize as a "small man."

I am the original China Ham, after all

I believe the phrase, when referring to a Westerner who has spent many years in China, is " China Hand".

A ham is a large cut of pork (usually but not always a leg) which has been cured, using a variety of recipes, to preserve it. It is often named for it's area of origin, Wiltshire Ham, Westphalian Ham, but to the best of my knowledge (admittedly incomplete) there is no "China Ham". However if you wish to be known as a leg of pork, cured to a particular oriental recipe, who am I to stand in your way!

I fail to understand why shutting down unneeded NGOs is a bad thing.

I am not sure that Musk is really a Nazi, in the conventional sense.

He is as all know extremely wealthy, but it seems he has little interest in any of the material benefits of such wealth. His range of partners and children rather suggests no interest or commitment to conventional family.

He is interested in power - he is astute enough to realise that he cannot gain it through election - he is too bizarre a figure for that, but he is astute enough to realise that in Trump he can buy it! Not buy influence to benefit himself, the probable aim of his fellow oligarchs, but buy power that he can wield.

Trump however is driven by narcissism, which feeds off wealth; he is attracted by the opulent trappings of conspicuous wealth, the gold elevators, gold plated toilets, gold cherubs over the doors to the Oval Office (taste is not a factor!). In Musk he sees a source of wealth, one which will allow him to continue to enjoy these trappings despite his somewhat ramshackle and indebted business empires. He allows Musk to carry on, even if it jars, witness his remarkable impression of a bulldog chewing a wasp when Elon and child were showboating in the Oval Office. Money, Trump wants, needs, lusts after it, relies on it; Musk has it.

That's why, as I said before, I think that the Trump/Musk axis will last - it benefits, feeds their different ambitions. It is not really a reflection of conventional politics.

Isn't it super obvious. Make sensible cuts looking at programs that are not needed or marginal - and being smart about which staff are cut and which left behind - no worries. Make poorly thought out wide ranging cuts in an arrogant smart alec way like you want to be seen as a hero rather than actually doing good things and people push back.

That would be a  person who is well-versed in Chinese affairs but may also have a tendency toward material gain or unethical behavior.

Frisco Kid's posts on this thread are well-written and his descriptions have the precision of laser guided munitions. Your lazy attempt to dismiss the truth of what he said only serves to remind readers of your intellectually dishonest and shallow critiques of anything that doesn't fit your narrative.

No, it's trickery.

It's mostly character assassination of Gamma and then insinuating that since Gamma is obviously a buffoon for all the silly threads he's started, then by association anyone of such ilk who supports Elon must be on the wrong side of the fence.

But you have to live with the fact that you have FriscoKid on "your team".

There's no question that this guy is somewhere on the spectrum, as he does seem to be quite a misfit. It is the cruelness he exhibits that is most alarming, and most peculiar. He seems to have a certain level of glee in regard to destroying careers and putting people out of work, and that's just downright vicious and nasty. As he's gotten more wealthy, he seems to have gotten more out of touch with humanity, and he seems to have become a lesser man.
