I logged onto my ktb app on the phone. Opened the travel card icon to see my travel visa card. It offered a new card. I tried to order but no I cannot get it because Im farang.

I called the head office. They said they only offer to thais. Maybe they make annoucement in June this year but unsure.

Do you have a travel card with any other bank in Thailand. I think they are really useful to load on any currency you want.

Any other options for us oldies living in Thailand. Any other type of card that one can use for travelling abroad?

thanks

I have a black "Planet" card from SCB that worked well in the US....

It's a prepay Visa card....It worked 95-?%.....At some gas stations it didn't go through, but seemed to work almost everywhere else.....

We RV, so the gas stops were important for us....

I'd move money from my SCB account to the Planet card as needed using the bank's apps.....

US bank to SCB to the Planet card.....The SCB ATM debit card is a Master Card = possible back up, but never tried to use....

thanks for your reply. When you were in the States could you use your thai phone and open the scb app and transfer to your plannet card?

Maybe I'm missing the point, but doesn't your Thai bank ATM card have a Visa symbol on it, and can be used with ATMs abroad, in-shop overseas purchases and online? Certainly my Bangkok Bank card works fine in those scenarios.

I always use Straight Talk when in the states....It can be used as a hot spot.....We frequent RV parks often enough to use their available wifi as needed.....

I bring the same phone each trip then go get a new number....This facilitates return phone calls as needed as most US entities hesitate to call back a 66 number.....Keeps us local, so to speak.....I don't know exactly which way the road takes us so make/confirm reservations as we go.....Last trip the weather knocked us many 100's of miles away from our projected path....CA/NM east instead of our WA/SD/Yellowstone eastbound initial "plan".....

It allows us flexibility.....

It works differently...

The Travel cards such as SCB Planet - allow you to 'buy' currency at a fixed rate... i.e. 100,000 JPY and then you can use that like a local card, when in Japan (for example) and not be subject to fluctuating conversion rates and overseas transaction fees...  or even double conversion costs etc.

They also have better security because they are not linked to your main account.

I recently returned to my home in Thailand from a visit to Australia. While in Australia I mostly used my Wise "visa" debit card (successfully), I did also on occasion use my Krungsri Exclusive "visa" credit card.

Also , a few years earlier, I successfully used my Bangkok Bank "visa" credit card in Northern Ireland.
