Happy Easter - News? Movies? Not very evident..

Thais celebrate Christmas, but turn it into a huge party . Nothing to do with the real meaning of Christmas and the Nativity. Why would they celebrate Easter or put it on the National newspapers / TV. Just as the rest of the world don’t know anything about about Thai celebration days. Look what the Thaîpeople have done to Songkran . It’s nothing to do with honoring Their elders and renewal. I always make sure I’m never there while it’s going on.

Paranoid posting. Telly line up is pretty normal for an Easter Sunday. The Holy Joes have The 10 Commandments over of Film 4.  The kids have a choice of Peter Rabbit, Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka, and Oliver! Had Easter Sunday Service followed by Messiah on the Beeb already. Normal Easter Sunday footie.

Sure, I wasn't making reference to Thailand. I meant what's out there in general - world news and Netflix

Why is it paranoid? Also, I'm not in ol'Blighty so not monitoring Channel 4 or the footie. I was making a general global reference. Not much news and nothing evident (advertised) on Netflix.

Why paranoid? You used, perhaps unintentionally, the paranoid fruit loop's favourite term "mainstream media" which is a bit of a red flag. These paranoid fruitloops, despite leading most of their (usually) 50-60 years on this Earth not giving a damn about the God Botherers, suddenly think there is some conspiracy to silence "Christianity".  Usually, they reach that conclusion because they read someone telling them that was happening. Tosh.

Its a normal Easter, except for the slightly unusual fact about Easter in 2025, which you probably aren't aware of.

Can’t blame the Thais for not believing the whole Jesus nonsense, his mother was a virgin etc.

They are not as gullible as the Americans, who are the only Western country where most people still believe in it.

Easter is not so much a religious ceremony in Australia these days - just a 4 or 5 day holiday.

It is a commercial event - loved by chocolate manufacturers.

The major Supermarkets start selling Hot Cross Buns in late January - hardly any religious significance then!

Now - living  in LOS - I hear nothing of Easter, and do not miss it at all.

I would like a bit of decent chockie though.... 555

Will Trump attend a service?

If by sit on his golden toilet and tweet nonsense, then yes.

"Happy Easter to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting and scheming so hard to bring Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, the Mentally Insane, and well known MS-13 Gang Members and Wife Beaters, back into our Country,"

Here is a shocking and almost unprecedented Easter event that was reported by the media:

Princess Beatrice and Her Husband Edo Arrive Holding Hands for Easter Sunday Services in Windsor

Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi joined the British royal family for Easter Sunday services at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

The princess chose a dark green belted coat dress with matching Mary Jane-style heels, topped off with a sparkling gold headband for the occasion.

It's just a suggestion, and many may think it is silly, but if you believe in The Resurrection and wish to celebrate Easter, don't worry about the telly, but go to Mass?

The Cathedral here in Chiang Mai was packed to the gills for 9.00 am Mass, celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy; there was a goodly number at 11.00am English Mass. The Protestant churches were similarly heaving. There was a bunch (of Thais) at the local malls handing out little packages of eggs wrapped in shredded paper, with an accompanying leaflet; smiles all round.

Personally I prefer the approach to the great feasts here, the West has, I feel, subsumed them into a cynical consumer and media event!

Many Thais understand the fundamentals, my daughter as a little girl, recounting the passage "when the cock crows thrice you will deny me" from the Passion of Our Lord, translated it as "when the chicken shouts three times you will say no" ( admittedly she was at a Catholic School and remains a Catholic); a Thai lady ( Buddhist ) once said to me "I know Easter, God die, wait three days, come back" - a pretty good 10 word summary! They may not be believers but they are aware.

And further to that message:

Mr. Trump said, going on to wish a happy Easter to the "WEAK and INEFFECTIVE Judges and Law Enforcement Officials who are allowing this sinister attack on our Nation to continue."

Which is Mr. Trump's Easter gift knowing that at least one and possibly all 3 of his Supreme Court justice appointments voted against him in the latest SCOTUS emergency ruling.

I’m not religious most of the religious teachings are to provide guidance to lead a good life + comfort to those who fear the unknown.I saw a pretty good documentary on Easter awhile back 5 years or so they spoke about Mary’s virgin birth these theologians thought Joseph married Mary to save her from stoning for being pregnant out of wedlock…..obviously that’s what happened even with that understanding it’s still a beautiful story.so what the heck if it gives someone comfort ok by me.ps it’s a tiny minority that really believes it.

And it went on to create Christians and countless wars since.

If only Mary had kept her legs together the world would have been a much better place.

That's if you presume anything actually happened outside of literature.

I'm sure there are documentaries where Rowlingists debate the true meaning behind Harry Potter's mother sacrificing herself, and how many sin-eaters can dance on the head of a bowtruckle.

Henry the 8th shut down the monasteries as he realised the Italians were taking so much cash out of the economy and the pope wouldn’t grant him a divorce

More people believe in God than don't, and in all western countries.  It's actually gullible to believe that the universe and everything in it, wasn't created with a purpose and came to be from not a creator but  a big bang that happened by itself. Not to start another discussion on the pros and cons as it isn't worth going over it again.

Sarcasm at its best......I hope....as no one can be so gullible as to believe in a creator who designed bone cancer for children just for a laugh.
