Ever since you missed the "black foreign tourists" bit in the other thread I have grave doubts about your Thai ability, to be honest.

It isn't hard to fake that you speak Thai to others on an online forum, as you know.

No maan  “aa” would use a า มาน

Anyway it just goes to show the importance of learning the thai alphabet.

if you read out loud the word “man” in English it is not the same sound as if you were saying “it” in Thai.

มัน is pronounced mun, not man.

I hope that clears up your misunderstanding.

I later edited to better show the sound of 'แ...' - 'mair' would be a better transcription, hence the comparison with 'แม', mother.

No misunderstanding on my part, thank you.

Did I say I didn't know their names? Do you go to your girlfriend's (if you have one) parents and say sawadee krup so and so? No, even Thais don't do that. All you hear is sawadee krup or sawadee ka.

I avoid all contact with my wife's mother.

If forced by circumstances to speak about her, 'Granny' (or Yai) is good enough.

She translates English 'hot potato' to 'problem' when speaking Thai.

Not sure what that has to do with anything on this thread.

I used to sit in the cinema listening to the English movie, and reading the Thai subs ....... they never matched.

Google translate isn't much better. Sometimes it comes out very strange, especially if you try long sentences.

I'm civil to everyone. I know the damage they've done, and still do to her. I've done all I can to help her get stronger against others who talk down to her, and it includes her parents. Now she doesn't let things bother her so much as I've built her self esteem more, showing her she's much better than some think she is. The first time I saw her mom talk to her, 4 years ago,  without knowing what she said, i saw fear and anxiety in her eyes, and she wouldn't look her in the eyes. Now it's a lot different.  I asked her what he mom ws saying after she left and it was a series of putdowns.

Did you by chance read that in this article?

I just posted that short video for you to listen to the way a thai pronounces potato in Thai.

it is a mun sound, she doesn’t say “man.”

As I've already said, my wife and those around me clearly say 'man' and I'll trust them over your video bird. Maybe a local variation but my money's on the pronunciation of those I know.

You are wrong. I dont have to ask anyone.

You talk about money, which is funny, it is pronounced as you would say money also. Or Monday.

มัน be itself translates as “it” or “fat”, not as in a fat person, but as fat in food. French fries have a lot of fat.

Nothing about me that time. She's told them all along I'm good to her, so they have no ammunition. They have said she was not good because she had a boyfriend. That came from having a crappy husband for years who did very little and worse, and they felt since she picked a loser in the beginning, she didn't know what she was doing. They wanted her to be all by herself, staying home taking care of the house. Control. Talking to her like she was 17 and not in her 40's and very intelligent. When people that should love you say you're bad all your life, you end up believing it until you're shown otherwise.

How do you know he can't speak Thai? How do we know you can? What does it matter anyway? If we're here, we're fitting in. Not speaking Thai isn't a factor in ability to stay here, nor is it when a Thai wants to live in another country and can't speak that language.

You need to remember, just because you've purchased women here, doesn't mean they're all bar girls or foreigners are bar girl buyers. It, again, is just a tiny fraction of all Thai women who live here. If you think I'm gullible, think of the opposite of that word and that's where I'm at.
