An incident in Chiang Mai has attracted local attention after an American man with a severe neck injury caused a scene outside a convenience store. The episode unfolded yesterday, April 22, and was captured on video by a bystander, who later shared it with the local social media community via the Facebook page, Guru Guroo Chiang Mai.

The footage shows the man, shirtless with red trousers and a gauze-covered neck wound, interacting with officers from the Bhubing Rajanives Police Station. His behaviour sparked concern among passersby and police, as he appeared to be under the influence and was not communicative about his condition or the cause of his injury.

Prior to the disturbance, the man had visited a nearby private hospital for his neck injury, where he received initial treatment but declined further medical care. Instead, he left the hospital and began behaving erratically outside the store.

Locals, worried about potential escalation, quickly involved the authorities. However, language barriers and the man's incoherent state hampered communication efforts. Police eventually managed to pacify the man and escorted him safely back to his hotel in the Chang Phueak sub-district.

The police informed hotel staff to keep an eye on the situation to ensure the safety of other guests. While many social media users have voiced concerns about returning the man to his hotel in such a state, the authorities have not pursued any legal action against him. As of now, no further incidents have been reported.

Badly injured.

Still refusing further medical attention.

Might be either:

Overstaying his stay permit.

Or engaged in anything he cannot publicize(e.g.taking narcotics).

Otherwise, simply running out of money(escaping from the hospital he was initially admitted, means he might have beaten the medical bill).

Yah, narcotics for sure. Either that or a Thai woman drove him crazy.

Mad Man! Maybe angry with how things are going in the US.

I'm sure that if an American is in Thailand the last thing he'd be thinking about would be the US. That's why I came here 12 years ago, amongst many reasons, and as far as I'm concerned the US doesn't exist. And if he's a stupid drunk American he's likely not aware of much outside of the drink in his hand.

As fellow Yank I endorse this message.

People from western countries come here and lose their minds.  The things you think are gonna get you, aren't the things that get you or drive you crazy.  It's the small things, that over time grate, irritate and add up that cause meltdowns like this.  In addition to the blistering heat, possible dehydration, and who knows what substances ingested.  Add a woman into the equation and you've got the perfect recipe for a major malfunction like this

You know, you might just be right on that.
