Saxo Bank and Tin number

Featured Replies

Anyone here using Saxo  bank for investments , have been with them about 18 Months they accepted the original reason for no TIN , that I was in Thailand and TRD wouldn't issue a TIN if no Thai income.

Now getting requests to complete a TIN but there is no options to explain why I don't have one.

Been trying to get in touch for the last week but customer services are severely lacking

just wondering of any one has any  advice

My Danish friend had no end of trouble in trying to explain to his Danish Bank why he didn't need/qualify for a Thai TIN [I think his bank required the TIN due to their regular remittance of his pension to his Thai bank account].

In the end, he gave up, obtained the TIN and advised the Danish bank accordingly.  Nothing heard from them since.

He's been retired for many years and has never (been required) to submit a Thai Tax Return - guess the issue now is whether he'll ever hear from the TRD in the future.

I'm in a similar position, just moved here on the 26th and getting hammered by my danish banks, and Interactive Brokers as well, to provide tax information. I have Saxo in Denmark, but not sure I will continue using them because of their ridiculous fees (at least compared to IBKR), as well as two other danish banks. Santander asks specifically for a tax ID number.

Did you end up getting a TIN?

Hi JontS

no never got a TIN ,,

I have just managed to sort out getting the LTR visa ,

even this is not straight forward in satisfying their requests it seems ,

The communications from them are terrible and not responsive , I am giving them one last go , and will close the account soon if they dont accept the LTR

Have you got a TIN , or did you go some other route ?

In these situations, I ask my wife what her TIN is, change one of the numbers in the sequence and give them that.

Love it, it is simply a box ticking exercise and doing exactly that, any 13 digit number will satisfy the foreign bank need for compliance, and you'll almost certainly never hear anything of it again.

The Danish Bank probably has a legal mandate to fulfill, reporting transfers for money laundering interdiction. Giving a false number could get your account locked, but one digit is a good strategy as you can just claim a typo. In the end, just apply for the TIN and if it is rejected, send the rejection letter.

No idea why Thailand would not issue a number, I would be handing them out to anyone that asks. If you don't owe anything, you will not have to pay anything.
