In a significant crackdown on illegal operations, Thai police have dismantled a Myanmar-operated entertainment complex in Samut Sakhon’s Mueang district, revealing a host of unauthorized activities including drug use and the employment of undocumented workers. The meticulously planned operation involved over 200 officers from various agencies and was spearheaded by provincial governor Naris Niramaiwong.

The complex, masquerading as an entertainment venue within a repurposed warehouse, was found to host multiple illicit activities across its pubs, bars, and karaoke lounges, with services offered at 250 baht (US$7.50) per hour. A VIP room provided space for drug use, where illicit substances were discovered concealed within sofa crevices.

Security forces also uncovered military-grade weapons and a large cache of methamphetamine pills, leading to immediate investigations. The complex, reportedly managed by a Burmese national and housing around 150 residents, was identified through intelligence gathered by military units and local citizens over several months.

Authorities uncovered various violations, including illegal gambling, drug dens, and unlicensed firearm possession. Confiscations and arrests made during the operation are being processed legally, marking a significant step in Thailand’s broader initiative to combat transnational crime and enforce social order, as emphasized by Governor Naris and Deputy Governor Khetrat Chanasil. This aligns with policies by Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to safeguard public safety.

During the raid, Pichit Thongpan, head of the Tri-Thep Protectors task force, highlighted that the Labour Ministry had formed this unit to tackle complaints about illegal foreign workers. Reports through official channels painted the venue as a hub for unlawful employment and activities, prompting undercover operations that culminated in the raid.

While initial inspections revealed that some workers had valid permits, others' statuses continue under review, with immigration police handling legal proceedings for those found residing unlawfully. Governor Naris noted the facility was operating without appropriate licenses and is under scrutiny for building use and service permits.

Targeting the Myanmar working community, the venue clandestinely offered entertainment without the necessary authorization, including alcohol sales and possible gambling devices, which will undergo legal examination. Situated in Tha Chin subdistrict, the complex was cleverly disguised, presenting as a secure warehouse without overt signs of entertainment, complicating previous inspections.

The successful operation revealed stark legal violations, meriting comprehensive actions against all involved parties. The presence of drugs in the karaoke rooms suggested both consumption and possible distribution activities, leading to immediate orders for the complex's closure and ongoing investigations. This decisive action underscores Thai authorities' commitment to maintaining law and order, particularly regarding cross-border criminal activities.
