A man out fishing received the shock of his life when he discovered he had not hooked a fish but the body of a missing security guard.

The incident occurred around 08:00 on 29 April, near the beach at Pom Phra Chulachomklao in Moo 5, Laem Fa Pha sub-district, Phra Samut Chedi district, Samut Prakan province. Police investigator Pol Lt Col Thongchai Srisamrong responded to the scene along with a forensic doctor from Phra Samut Chedi Sawatyanon Hospital and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation.

The body of a man was found face down in the water, clad in the uniform of a private security company. He was wearing trainers and is believed to have been dead for at least 10–12 hours. No signs of injury or foul play were found on the body.

A wallet containing 210 baht in cash, a cash card, a phone pawn receipt, a torch, and a national ID card was recovered. The deceased was identified as Mr. Siri a 48-year-old native of Phon Sawan district, Si Sa Ket province.

Mr. Thana a 30-year-old welder, was the first to discover the body. On his day off, he had travelled to the beach for some fishing. While scouting the area, he noticed a piece of blue cloth floating near a collapsed jetty but thought little of it. After casting his line into the same area, he felt a tug and assumed he had hooked a large fish.

As he reeled in the line, he realised the hook had snagged on the cloth. He began pulling harder to free the line, only to discover, to his horror, that the hook had latched onto a corpse.

Shocked, he called over a nearby scrap collector to confirm what he had found, before alerting the police and rescue services.

While authorities conducted a preliminary examination of the body, Mr. Bancha 62, a senior security officer at the deceased’s company, arrived at the scene and confirmed the man was one of his subordinates. He explained that the deceased had been employed at a shipbuilding and repair facility in Phra Samut Chedi for the past six or seven months.

His last logged patrols were recorded at 19:00 and 20:00, via a company Line group used to confirm security checks across five designated zones.

His last known location was checkpoint 2, a dock area with gangplanks and floating pontoons that shift with the current when boats pass, potentially creating unstable footing. It is believed that the guard may have lost his balance and fallen into the water.

Throughout the night, fellow security staff scoured the area in vain. It wasn’t until the following morning that his body was discovered, washed up on the nearby beach.

The police recorded the incident and transferred the body to the forensic institute for a post-mortem examination.
