Do you drive a HILUX? Don't you wish everybody did?

Very simple - people who want a truck to excellently tick all the basic boxes of functionality/durability/reliability.

On the flipside you have the expat douchebag mobile called the Ford Raptor and its slightly less idiotic "-trak" trims. Standard Ranger trim is fine but Hilux probably still a better long term choice.

D-MAX, especially the lowered ones often seen in Isaan? Stands for  Douche-MAX.

hahahaha, I have a Douche-MAX too.... another bottomless pit like the my hilux !

Who would drive a truck anyway?

Because it's big? Cheap?

Are they farmers? Or delivery guys?

I drive one daily as it is a company provided vehicle, Ranger Storm Trak.

The Hilux and Douche-Max I own are play toys.

No! In my experience Hilux drivers are usually a$$ holes.

Honda City drivers too.

Probably mostly construction workers.

So, in Thailand, the population must be about 95% construction workers.

Think of all that pounding of nails and sawing of tile.

This is why its so noisy here in Thailand, i think....

Too many cheap laborers driving HiLuxes....

Well, a truck is quite practical, especially if your only vehicle and you're a home owner.  If having a garden, almost a necessity in most 1st world countries.   Not so sure about TH, as not much they won't deliver on the cheap.

Of course in the villages, one is a necessity, in the family at least, as someone will need.  Or good cheap transport when 10 family members all need or want to go to the place.

I usually had a truck (petrol) in USA, and not always just for work.  I enjoy a bit more of a comfy ride now, so sticking with SUV.  Still peek at the slim BEV truck pickins.  When a basic one is available, with a real cargo bed for <1M baht, I may even pick one up for some RV O&A cruising.

Especially if our dog is still alive, as pet friendly hotels are a challenge to find sometimes.  Wouldn't mind parking surfside or on a hilltop with a view, and camp with electric conveniences.

Well, many farangs driving trucks.

Probably they expect riding a horse (what it feels like). One of these trucks is called "rocky" . So driving/riding "Rocky" gives you the feeling being a cowboy? Maybe a feeling like a little boy🤗?

Yes.

I am unable to ride in HILUXES, due to the very hard suspension.

It is exactly like riding a horse.

But, on very rough terrain.

I really do not know how owners put up with  this....

Maybe they have rocks in their heads?

This is all I can figure.

Of course, if one is a construction worker, then the jarring ride goes with the territory, and cannot be helped.

But, to intentionally subject oneself to this kind of transport, without a real need, seems lunacy.

A truck is better for taking the dog camping.

The meaning is obvious....I think...

Not sure why it's hard to understand, unless speed reading and missed the pet friendly part.

If in an area that doesn't have pet friendly hotels, then we can simply park & camp where there's a nice view.

Do we need a truck to camp ?  Of course not, unless wanting AC comfort, that a BEV will provide.  Tried 'camping' in the BEV SUV, and not really enough room for the 3 of us.  It is a B class SUV, and TBH, they shouldn't call things that small a SUV.

You mean you air-condition your tent?

I have rarely heard of such a thing, outside of the Sahara.

And, what is a BEV?

Is that like coke, tea, coffee...etc?

Also, those HILUX truck cabs are very small inside.

If you are going camping, why not just get an AirStream?

And, why would the dog want to sleep in the cab of a truck with its owners.

Seems crowded to me.

Last time I rode in one of those Izuzu pickup trucks...

It gave me a huge headache.

I was on paracetamol for weeks.

Hard to top his posts on how Thai houses are better because they are brick are better insulated than American ones. I now see we have simply a lonely old bored dude posting.

Thai brick is one of the most ridiculous and least efficient building materials ever invented. It is a horrific material. Yikes.

BEV ... E-Truck, all electric, not a hybrid.  Can run the AC all night and sleep in comfort.  It is TH, and damn hot most times.

AC would use very little overnight, 12 hrs.  But need a proper cargo bed, 2 meters or just shy of, so I can lay out.   Pick up trucks now are nothing but SUVs with  1.5 meter bed, if lucky.  I'm 175cm.

And as you point out, they ain't exactly the most comfy ride.  A BEV would be much better, hopefully.

The MG E-pick up has the option to lower the window & wall between the cab & bed, but it's also ฿2.5M.   Already have a car that we're very happy with, 2.5M for another ... nah, that's a bit too frivolous.

Pick up would come in handy around the house, greenhouse / garden.  A nice insulated cap, memory foam mattress bed, and a makeshift shower, would be nice.  Don't need the whole RV pop up camper thingy, as again, too silly priced.

Hotels are too inexpensive, and the 'camping view' isn't that important.   Though would be nice & handy at times.

He has absolutely NO CLUE what I was stating.

He has no clue about anything relating to science, apparently.

What I stated was that bricks, whether made in Thailand or anywhere, have high mass.

As this is the case, then it requires much energy to heat them up.

And, it requires a lot of energy transfer to cool this thermal mass down.

Unfortunately, this guy has probably never had a science class in his life, and so it is pointless to try to educate him, at this late date in his life.

I was speaking of American houses, those that are not made of brick, but some lighter material of less mass, require much less energy transfer to go from one temp to a higher or lower temp.

But, really, quite pointless to explain this to someone who is so clueless about all sciences.

Also, this guy is ignored by me since I don't have enough time in the day to educate him about anything.

He probably drives some old HILUX truck.....and when I say old I mean VERY old, almost no value left in it.

Don't you worry about thieves in the night when camping outside in an unknown area?

Also, no need for a shower.

Just take a bucket along and fill it up, almost anywhere.

Or, just go to any old stream and have a bath, that way.

I think you should get a E-VAN instead of an E-Truck.

The E-VAN is very comfortable, since it is designed to carry passengers, unlike a truck.

And, plenty of space for sleeping, as well as up to three or four dogs.

The problem with these "cheap pickups" is they have much better engines than they used to have

but not much of an upgrade to the stopability.................... be really careful

E van would work also, though slim pickins or to expensive.   MG has 2, both more than I want to pay.  One really plush @ 2.5M, the other I haven't peeked at, think it was 1.7M.   No Thanks.

I feel safe everywhere in TH.  Have a dog & big A$$ knives.  Random violence outside the touist ghetto is almost non existent.  No worries.

Small water tank and sump pump is all one would need for a make shift shower.  Quick shower takes very little water.  Not like I'd sleep in the truck every night.

That's the one.

Of course.

Almost impossible to forget.

Not sure which agency arrived at that, though.
