A man in Thailand suffered an unusual accident after a large 40-kilogram frozen tuna fell on his head. The incident occurred when the fish slipped from a net aboard a ship as the man stepped out of his lorry.

 

At 12pm on 7th May, emergency services in Samut Prakan were alerted via the 1669 hotline to an injury of unknown cause at the Suphanava Harbour.

 

On arrival, rescue volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation discovered a 41-year-old truck driver named Mr Prayote at the scene with a 5cm head wound, bleeding but conscious and coherent. He was subsequently given first aid before being transported to Bangchak Hospital.

 

The site, Pier Lock 6, was flanked by a Korean vessel loaded with 3,000 tonnes of frozen tuna waiting to be processed into canned fish in Samut Sakhon.

 

Eyewitnesses describe that Mr Prayote was alone, parking his lorry beside the ship when crew members began lifting tuna from the vessel using a net. A heavy fish reportedly slipped free and coincidentally struck Mr Prayote just as he stepped out of his vehicle.

 

Mr Somsak, the dock supervisor at age 56, wasn’t present during the incident but confirmed that the tuna were being unloaded onto lorries destined for a local processing factory.

Hope he recovers. BUT , one smallish ship in Thailand THREE THOUSAND TONS of tuna! For one canning factory. Our great grandkids will rarely see fish on their plate at this rate. We are farming the ocean too much.
