Liverpool Lou Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago "Does the world need a pope?" Obviously, the world does not. Some Catholics do, though. 1 1

He split with Rome because the Pope would not annul his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. Henry did not introduce any of the Protestant Reformers theology into the Church.

harryviking Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago The world do not need any religion at all! All of it is nonsense and only a way to keep people "under their thumb"! Take a look at the history of the Chatolic church! That is a horror story for hundreds of years!! Incredible evil!! Religion kills! 1
Mason45 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago As a son of a devout Glasgow orange man I say F**K the pope.
Magictoad Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago We need a dynamic pope to help with the war on Islam, nobody but Trump can see the danger. Certainly nobody in the UK where we are being flooded

The Shankhill Butchers. This is a very disturbing read. Was this in the name of religion? Most won't know about this but I suggest you look it up.

The two sides are of different faiths, but they were not fighting over the real presence in the mass or the efficacy of indulgences. One side sees themselves as Irish and want a 32 county Irish Republic, the other is British and are determined to maintain the Union with the Crown and the status of the six counties of Northern Ireland as an integral part of the United Kingdom. Why not balance your reading matter with a report of RC/Irish Republican terrorists going into a Protestant Church service and indiscriminately murdering members of the congregation. Anyway, happy to have been able to provide some education. Wish I had a quid for every time I've heard some sanctimonious know-nothing talk about them fighting over religion.

I studied politics at uni under Norman Porter's son also named Norman Porter. A great lecturer, a mentor and a mate. So I guess being sanctimonious on this occasion is something you might apply to yourself. Can't wait to see your response to this unless of course I've put you firmly in your place and there will be no reply. Cheers.
Patong2021 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago 1.3 billion members of the Catholic church believe that there should be a Pope. Their religion, their church and their right to have such a person. It is no one else's business to tell them whether there should be a pope or not.

jimmybcool Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago What's need have to do with it? They can do whatever they want to in their religion. And I don't see how having one detracts from addressing other worldly issues. Weird question. And no I am not Catholic.

You are the one who asked was this in the name of religion, indicating minimal knowledge of the subject you were speaking of. No idea who Norman Porter was and bully for you for going to Uni, I didn't go I left school at sixteen. I have been to Belfast and the Shankill many times, though not for some years, so I do have some knowledge and experience. Hope this does not burst your bubble of assumed superiority.

Well I guess times move on. You've probably never heard of Ian Paisley who was a Protestant leader and the leader of the DUP either. No assumed superiority on my part. Simply higher education where for a part I studied the political theory of the Republic of Ireland/Northern Ireland divide. Back to "assumed superiority" my background is blue collar. p.s. do you know about the Shankhill Butchers? Have you read the book? My guess is probably not.

Magictoad Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago If the pope will lead us in a fight against Islam and its invasion of our Christian countries: yes then we need one.

You made the comment "about religion", ref violence in Ulster which shows that you have or had no understanding of the situation. I explained simply the reality of things which you do not seem to have read.

Ok. Who are you to be so condescending and dismissive? Their selection of Pope did no harm and provided comfort to many. If Catholics wish to behave in the ways you describe and hurt no one, it is their right. I would rather someone do their rosary than have a machete rampage through the streets of Manchester. 1
