But Stalin was our ally...and with 21 million Russian deaths I think they deserve a lot of credit...in fact, they were Britain's only ally, you yanks always arrive late to the party

Without the Yanks you would not be having this party.

It was a necessary war against evil.

Today we also have a necessary war against the evil of Putin.

Well, on this one I agree. Putler is a menace and a threat to the world, who hails from the KGB under Soviet dictators, and who has overseen the murder and organised killings of so many millions in the name of control and suppression reasons... only coming second to the crimes against humanity that were committed by Mao and the CCP... who both continue to wreak havok on their respective societies.

You only have to look back into the real history of these two countries to see just how many millions they have indifferently sent to their deaths for political reasons... makes the Nazis look like boy-scouts.

Today, on both May 8th and May 9th depending on the region, we reflect and mourn the losses caused by the German Nazis who attempted to establish a Third Reich in Europe and beyond.
Prayer for those lost, killed, injured, and traumatized by those who sought to conquer the world eighty years ago.
As always in war in the past, and war in the future - civilians bear the brunt force of wars.

As a US Anti-war Veteran - I call for an end to all war.  If we don't end war soon, as Einstein so aptly pointed out, "World War 4 will be fought with rocks and sticks."

Quite the confusing table you posted there, following your comment.

Really, Germany caused millions of civilian deaths in China ??!

Also quite missing, where are the millions of people the USA killed; are they not worth even a mention??

Would you support Donald Trump if he declared war on Russia ?

The USA is not known to follow international law and declare their wars, not since 1945. They are standing above all laws and rules, has nobody told you?

This is why the USA can simultaneously have a president invoking war time emergency powers to deport invaders and strike other nations pre-emptively with economic sanctions (tariffs), while at the same time not being in a state of war.

It is grotesque, to use a nice word. Maybe Americans should reflect on that, instead of being moral apostles on a high horse.

What is the international law of declaring war?

Stalin's mob never gives credit to the British hardware that kept the USSR in the fight after Stalin had killed most of his generals.

Your statement deliberately ignores our allies in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and elsewhere, in order to give a pro-Soviet Russia spin to the war.

Stalin enabled Germany's invasion of Poland, France and other countries, and enabled Nazi bombing of Britain.

In 1939, the USSR and Germany signed a trade agreement that resulted in the USSR exporting massive amounts of raw material that Germany turned into tanks, planes, guns and bombs that were used to kill Londoners. And supplied the oil to power the tanks that Blitzkrieged into France. Stalin enabled Hitler to start WW2. The Soviet exports to Germany became supercharged once the UK declared war. Stalin even allowed the Germans to build a U-boat base near Murmansk that enabled Germany to evade any blockade the British might have tried in repetition of WW1.

It was America and Britain that essentially stopped Germany taking Moscow, and Stalin becoming but a footnote.

Russia takes credit.  Less than half of Soviet losses were from the Russian SSR. A large number of the military losses were down to military incompetance thanks to the purges in the 1930s. I don't give them a pat on the back for being idiots.

Actually, had Hitler not been stupid enough to invade the USSR, it is likely that Stalin would have been quite happy to share the domination of European countries with Hitler, as they did in Poland.

USA began sending aid to the USSR, later renamed the USSA (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics), during World War II. Initially, this assistance was provided through a program called Lend-Lease, which started in 1941, initially primarily for the UK and other nations already at war with Germany and Japan, according to the Office of the Historian. The USSR received supplies outside of Lend-Lease in June 1941, paid for in gold, and was later included in the Lend-Lease agreement in November 1941. This aid included military equipment, vehicles, industrial supplies, and food. Roughly 17.5 million tons were shipped from the Western Hemisphere to the USSR, with 94% coming from the US.

You're being an ass, you know exactly what that table means.  Or are you really that ignorant regarding the history of the WWII conflict.  Did they stop teaching it to you kiddies back in the nanny-state schools.  Or are you willfully stupid.  By your response, I'm judging the latter.   Just stop - don't be an ass.

Though the war would drag on for a few more months due to Japan's inability to wrap their minds around the fact that they had already lost the war, this is an incredibly significant day for Europe and marks the end of a long and gruesome war. Those fatality statistics are truly horrific, and what's even more horrific is the fact that so many Russians died at the hands of Stalin, not just the Germans.

That part of Stalin killing a lot of Russians goes double for Ukraine he starved millions of them to death before ww2 started that’s why many greeted the Germans as liberators….they found out differently soon.lets not allow putin to repeat the same mistake.

U.S. votes against anti-Nazi resolution at U.N.

The resolution entitled "Combating glorification of Nazism, Neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fueling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance," was approved by the U.N.'s human rights committee on Friday with 131 in favor, 3 against with 48 abstentions.

Ukraine and Palau were the other no votes.

Gewinnend!

You are presenting the resolution out of context. The USA and most of the 50+ other  nations who did not support in favour of the  motion are already on record in respect to the issue, with the USA  one of the most vociferous opponents of such hate. Their position was attributable to the language used and the manipulation by Russia which  sought to use the motion as a justification of its  illegal attack on Ukraine and annexation of Ukraine territory.

A question posed without circumstances. It is not unreasonable to oppose a declaration of war without a legitimate reason for the declaration of war provided.

Are you expecting  some dissatisfied Russian from Tashkent or Chechhnya to disrupt?

A majority of those deaths were because of the Russian state itself. It was Russia that sent waves of unarmed people against  German  trenches and fortified positions. It was Russia that allowed millions of Russians to starve rather than evacuate areas out of German attacks. It was Russia that confiscated Russian farmers property resulting in mass starvation. Much of Ruussia's military  losses were self inflicted or due to poor  leadership from Stalin and his entourage.
