I've made about half a dozen minor claims on travel insurance policies in 25 years of international travel. None of them has been approved because of the fine print, usually around page 42 of the long form policy. So I have absolutely no confidence that they'd approve a whopper of a claim. I never purchased travel insurance as I am already covered except during Covid, when it was required I read the policy very carefully. SafetyWing. It covers almost nothing 1
Popular Post Quentin Zen Posted Sunday at 02:11 AM Popular Post Posted Sunday at 02:11 AM terrible situation. feel bad for him and the parents. But it's time to make light of this.... I came to Thailand with 50 baht, immediately did gofundme as I drank all night, rode my motorbike, and crashed without insurance. yes, doing dangerous things. dangerous behavior. not smart. not clever. but how can you predict these things? you use your brain, think, plan, be responsible. 100% of all farangs know insurance is a thing. 100%. It's the trolley problem. You are ON the tracks. That's the problem. dude is in TOS doing possibly dangerous stuff and then asks for money. with a zillion people in the world (we have no idea) I'm not sure my money will go to him first. 3

So hard to get into the heads of young kids. I guess if I were their age, I'd be doing the same thing? Some of them might be getting carried away showing off, though. To be fair, I was down there, angling to get a better photo. My Thai wife told me not to do it. But I did, and fell in. She gave me the silent treatment driving home. Its a biological fact that as we age, we become more risk averse due to changes in brain vascularisation. Its not an old versus young type of change, but an evolutionary trait. The young alpha male is supposed to take risks, otherwise he will never be leader of the pack. He might get killed along the way, but if he doesn't, then he has great genes. As the alpha male ages, with his brood, he avoids fights to avoid getting killed, because that ends the bloodline. I have a box of crap, out of focus photos, showing life before social media. 2 1

zepplin Posted yesterday at 01:12 AM Posted yesterday at 01:12 AM On 5/11/2025 at 3:29 AM, Georgealbert said: Picture courtesy of Naewna A 21-year-old British tourist who suffered life-threatening injuries after falling from a waterfall in Thailand is now facing medical bills exceeding 4.3 million Baht, prompting his family and girlfriend to launch an urgent fundraising appeal to bring him home. Liam Gibson, a British soldier, was holidaying on Koh Samui with his girlfriend, Lucy Baldwin, 20, when the incident occurred during the Songkran festival. On 12 April, while taking photos at a popular viewing point at Na Muang 2 Waterfall, a location widely shared on TikTok, Liam lost his footing and plunged nine metres onto rocks below. He sustained multiple serious injuries, including a fractured skull, broken facial bones, and a shattered femur. Liam remained stuck and unconscious for nearly two hours before being rescued and rushed to a local hospital. He has been in hospital for nearly a month following the incident. Lucy, describing the ordeal as the “worst experience of her life,” said: “I noticed he’d been gone for a while, so I called out. Then I saw him unconscious on the rocks, covered in blood. Thankfully, nearby tourists came to help us.” Due to the severity of his injuries and the high cost of international medical transport, Liam requires an air ambulance to return to the UK for further surgery. Lucy launched a fundraising campaign via GoFundMe to help cover the medical expenses. In her heartfelt plea, Lucy wrote, “We never wanted to ask for help, but this is our last option. Liam can’t leave the hospital until the bill is paid. Please help me bring him home so he can get the surgery he desperately needs.” So far, more than 1.3 million Baht has been raised. The family expressed their deep gratitude for the outpouring of support and are currently working with their insurance provider in the hope of resolving the situation. The incident has once again raised concerns over travel safety and the importance of adequate insurance coverage while abroad. Adapted by Asean Now from Naewna 2025-05-11. Another numpty, who was at the back of the queue when brains were handed out, this bell end walked straight past the warning sign, try to be macho, and now wants others to pay for his stupidity! 1 1
damo1967 Posted yesterday at 01:15 AM Posted yesterday at 01:15 AM Another braindead young traveller who did not have adequate insurance... so why should strangers help and care for this dumb guy when he obviously does not care enough about himself to get proper insurance? He will be getting exactly 'zilch', 'zero', nada' from me. Don't care if he gets stuck there at the hospital for 'years'.. I urge people to think carefully when donating to this ejioiot!!! 1 1 1

fittobethaied Posted yesterday at 01:37 AM Posted yesterday at 01:37 AM This generation of young men and woman are lured to "extreme sports" activities by TV and social media. They actually believe that to do stupid stuff makes them more macho. People go around the world to climb Mount Everest to "conquer their fears". God gave us a brain and the emotion of fear for a reason, but then we see all the time on TV where a snow skier was trapped in an avalanche, was rescued at great expense to the public, and then they can't wait to get back on the slopes again the next day. Sheer stupidity!
