I've found fresh spinach at Top's (Pohan Yotin). Admittedly, I don't normally shop there. It's pricey at b65 a bunch. Anyone know where to find fresh maybe even frozen spinach (not pak boong) in central BKK ?

 

**Also looking for pickled ginger bulk.

 

** Also looking for good but cheap ribeye

 

* Also red wine bulk recommendation.

 

BTW I'm not near makro but could make a trip.

No you haven't.  What you've found is phak kom - a name used for various Amaranthus species.  Spinach is Spinacia oleracea.

Tops occasionally sells fresh Australian spinach leaves, and also Waitrose frozen spinach balls. Also seen spinach leaves in Makro.

 

I didn't look at any scientific names as Zaphod Priest has mentioned, but the Waitrose frozen was definitely spinach.

You're an absolute moron. I've been living in Thailand for 20 years and in East Asia for an additional 15. I think I know difference between morning glory and proper spinach. Absolute audacity of You to tell me I'm wrong when you've not seen even a photograph what I'm talking about. Do you think that possibly there are fresh offerings in a supermarket that is not offered online? Do you think that one of the premier supermarkets in this food chain might have things that other bog standard grocery stores do not have?

 

You've now told me twice that I'm wrong despite me finding the spinach, purchasing the spinach, bringing it home and having the wife who loves proper spinach cook the spinach and then we both eat the spinach.

 

This is so absolutely typical of this forum.

sorry to be the grim reaper, but spinach is one of those foods high in oxalates, which can contribute to kidney stones.

despite being full of vitamins and minerals, i wouldnt eat it daily due to the oxalates.

It was absolutely spinach. I was even a vegetarian for 3 years. I know what fuxking spinach is. Here's another one.. the doubting Thomas's aseannow.

Wow, how annoying you are. I have never in my life felt that I have at least bit issue with kidney stones even at 65. It's not even a remote concern in the back of my mind.

 

At b65 a small package I think I would have to spend a small fortune to even get the tiniest of kidney stone from eating spinach and Thailand LOL

 

You people are absolutely ridiculous.

 

So, I'll leave you to your white bread and your deep fried pizza. You can avoid kidney stones 👍👍

The bunch I had b65. It fried up into a portion for one. I'll buy it again but just use it in salads. I love to fry spinach and garlic and olive oil but b130 for a side dish for two is a bit on the pricey side

What is especially annoying for most of these respondents is that in my op I specifically stated it was not pak boong. You should be a flag clearly to those intellectually challenged members that I know the difference between the two.

 

This was fresh and there is absolutely no way that anyone could mistake one for the other of these fresh green vegetables.

 

If no other reason pak boong is like 1/3 the cost as well. You people are absolutely clueless

I fry it with cream and garlic and It's fine if the steak is expensive enough, put's things in perspective!  Monthly treat rather than daily.

No need for the insults.  What you bought is phak khom.  I didn't mention morning glory, which is phak bung.

 

True spinach Spinacia oleracea in Thai is puai leng.

 

I'm really surprised that after being in Thailand for 20 years you haven't learnt the names of the different vegetables.  Do you even read Thai?

About 3 weeks ago a round black kidney stone smaller than a BB blocked my ureter (tube from kidney to bladder).  At times the pain was excruciating.  Do your best to avoid kidney stones... drink plenty of water to keep the concentration of calcium and oxalates in your urine lower and add some lemon/lime juice to your drinking water.
