Reader's digest version of link in OP, and we eat all 7 of those ...

Enhance kidney function with these 7 foods recommended by Dr. Breg.

Dr Breg, who specialises in healthy ketosis and intermittent fasting.

1. Asparagus

2. Magnesium-rich foods

Pumpkin seeds, leafy greens, and avocados

3. Probiotic foods

kefir, yoghurt, and sauerkraut

4. Kimchi

5. High antioxidant foods

"Blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and beets"

6. Quercetin

Quercetin is a powerful antioxidant, and the best sources are "white onion and red onions,"

7. Extra virgin olive oil

Plenty of red wine

I guess I'm pretty fortunate as we eat ALL of these recommended foods every week. Love 'Kimchee-buta,' (sliced pork with Kimchee, gochujang, garlic and ginger. 5 minutes to make and healthy to eat!)

Olives with breakfast every morning,

Saurkraut with lunch 2-3 times a week,

Raspberries and Greek yogurt for dessert at dinner once or twice a week,

avocados with lunch 2-3 times a week,

pumpkin seeds as snacks,

Asparagus with Shrimp at least once a week.

Hell, I just might live forever!  🙂

<removed> meters on Lazada and Shopee are great for testing water quality.

But if the glass contains red wine, beer, or anything other than clear water, the reading won’t be reliable or meaningful.

These meters are designed to measure inorganic dissolved solids in water, not complex liquids like alcohol or beverages with lots of organic compounds.

Ah, yes—onions! They definitely deserve their spotlight, especially for people with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Onions do make you cry—but that’s part of their charm and power.

Tears are a small price to pay for all the goodness onions bring.

Where do you buy saurkraut in Thailand ?

I can buy it to eat at home in Rimping, Tops, and several other shops. I have it served at lunch in restaurants. Obviously, the German buffet restaurant offers it, as do a few other restaurants.
But if you can’t find it, it’s certainly easy enough to make, even in a one-room apartment with no kitchen. Here’s how:

Cut and shred a round cabbage. Sprinkle with 2-3 tablespoons of non-iodized salt. Put in a big jar with a spoonful of black peppercorns and a spoonful of coriander seeds. Put in a cool place. Eat in 3-4 day or longer (You can skip the peppercorns and coriander if you wish. Salt alone will saur your kraut.

Most folks dont know this, but sauerkraut was one of the main food supplies during the American Civil War on both sides sides!

No Tops or Rimping in my neck of the woods.

Non-iodized salt ? Why ?

I think that is rotten cabbage after a few days and you know how terrible rotten cabbage stinks.

One of the best things for kidney health is ....water..drink lots of it ....and a can of beer everyday to give you kidneys a good flush ... Sheryl may not agree with the last suggestion but I did get my doctor to agree that a beer with enough water to compensate for the diuretic effect of beer might not be bad .

No supermarkets? Not even a Macro nearby?

The difference is between fermentation and rotting.

Iodized salt affects the fermentation process. We need the cabbage to ferment for saurkraut, which it wants to do in the presence of all that salt! Here's an AI breakdown of the difference:

Fermentation is not simply rotting, though both processes involve the breakdown of organic matter by microorganisms. The key differences lie in control, the types of microbes involved, and the outcomes for food safety and flavor.

Fermentation is a controlled process in which specific beneficial microorganisms—such as bacteria, yeast, or molds—convert sugars and other compounds in food into acids, gases, or alcohol. This process is managed by humans to achieve desirable flavors, textures, and preservation effects. For example, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are commonly used to ferment vegetables into sauerkraut or kimchi, creating an acidic environment that preserves the food and makes it safe to eat for extended periods.

Rotting (or putrefaction), on the other hand, is an uncontrolled process where a wide variety of microorganisms, including spoilage bacteria and molds, break down food. This leads to the production of unpleasant odors (like ammonia and hydrogen sulfide), off-flavors, and potentially harmful substances that can cause food poisoning or illness

Non-iodized salt and you'll have saurkraut in 2-3 days. Better to wait a week or two, though.
Making Kimchee is even easier!

We get EVOO at Makro, Bertolli brand.  When scanning the barcode, Tops, Big C, Makro, Gourmet Market, LAZ, Shopee & Amazon (India) pop up, along with Bertolli link in google.

So unless they are all buying from the same fake supplier, I reckon it's an authentic Bertolli product.

A couple of obvious choices. raw, unfiltered and/or PDO.

Examples:

https://farchioni1780.com/en/products/organic-italian-extra-virgin-olive-oil-il-casolare

https://www.konstolymp.gr/our-brands/kalamata-pdo

PDO stands for Protected Designation of Origin. Meaning that you aren't going to get a blend of oils from all over the world, but olive oil produced in a particular region.

I would exclude Bertolli. They blend oil from all over the world. An Italian sounding name, but...Deoleo, S.A. is a Spanish multinational olive oil processing company. It is the world's largest bottler selling brands such as Bertolli, Carapelli, Carbonell, and Koipe.

Then there was the Bertolli lawsuit...

As in “100% olive oil”, then no.

Deoleo, the parent company of Bertolli, has settled class action lawsuits, or paid fines in what seems to be every country they do business in. They get caught, say how sorry they are, provide “testing” that the oil in question was just a “bad batch”, make sure that any settlement never provides any statement of wrong doing, and then go right back to doing what they were doing.

There is too much money to be made by selling Extra Virgin Olive Oil that isn’t either Extra, Virgin, or Olive.

Why do you think that a GALLON of Bertolli EVOO costs less than a LITER of proper EVOO from a quality producer in Italy? The wholesale cost of EVOO might vary 10% to 15% across all of Italy. The numbers of what they produce and sell are just not realistic.

This photo is first press EVOO which retains it colour if in a dark container . Bertoli source their olive oil from various farms and then blend it  . A decent EVOO will have the harvest date and if from Europe a sell by date . There are some companies that use a " Block Chain " , which is a complete tractability of the product . Recent revelations showed that up to 80% of olive oil sold in supermarkets were fake .

If you actually read the details of the settlement, instead of AI generated result, then you'd know the basis of the suit was the labeling, not the product itself.   Labelled as 'imported from Italy'.  No details to where product was produced or sold, that I noticed, but guessing USA.  Maybe using olives source in USA ?

Bottles (glass) we buy are dark green, to protect from sunlight, and oil has distinct color & flavor vs other oils we use.

https://www.fooddive.com/news/maker-of-bertolli-olive-oil-settles-class-action-lawsuit-for-7m/521140/#:~:text=The complaint%2C filed in 2014,while sitting on store shelves.

Of course, there is this ...

... "Whether for smell, taste, or chemical quality, Stiftung Warentest tests olive oils in Germany thoroughly, providing consumers with important guidance. This year, 25 extra virgin olive oils were examined. Among the top 5 once again in 2025 is the extra virgin olive oil Originale from market leader Bertolli.

In 2021, Bertolli Originale was already recognized as the “best classic brand olive oil” – and it also impressed in the current test with its balanced flavour with a delicate note of green almond and green apple (sensory quality: grade 2.2).

For 160 years, Bertolli has stood for high-quality extra virgin olive oil blends. These are always carefully tailored to the taste preferences of German consumers." ...

Irony personified.. You chide @superal for quoting an AI generated result, whilst totally fabricating a scenario on where the olives were sourced 😊 without any kind of check.

Allow me:

Geographical origin according to declarationFootnote:3 EU and third countries
Olive varieties according to supplier Arbequina, Hojiblanca, Picual, Coratina, Koroneiki

So you are looking at South American olives amongst others. They blend oil from all over the world. There is little QC when it comes to the American market. That why Europe and U.K. want to keep their low quality of oversight out of their markets. You just fake the products over there. That's why we have PDO and the like in Europe.

Then you compound that failure by paraphrasing an already dodgy press release from the offending company.

Let's go back; first of all, it's unlikely that you have ordered either of the two oils mentioned in the tests and secondly, you have no idea as to what the ratings given actually mean.

Allow me:

Very good
very good (0.5 - 1.5)
Good
good (1.6 - 2.5)
Satisfactory
satisfactory (2.6 - 3.5)
Sufficient
sufficient (3.6 - 4.5)
Poor
poor (4.6 - 5.5)

So the oils in question had a Satisfactory rating. Hardly high praise.

I stand by my recommendation of raw and unfiltered or at least P.D.O oils. Skip the 'Classic brand name' nonsense if you want a high quality of oil.

Have seen both on sale in Thailand. In bigger examples of TOPS. Though it could be that it's not stocked everywhere or has stopped being restocked. I guess you'd have to be close to a place that has tourists and locals with sophisticated tastes.

You can still find other PDO and PGI EVOO online.
