A tragic incident unfolded in Phatthalung province as a man allegedly lured his ex-girlfriend to a reservoir, where he purportedly attempted to assault her sexually and subsequently fatally attacked her. The victim, 52-year-old Malee, was discovered in critical condition on May 20 near the Khao Hua Chang Reservoir, suffering from severe facial and head injuries, with her trousers found around her ankles.

Despite being rushed to Tamot Hospital by local medical staff, Malee succumbed to her injuries. Her friend, 42-year-old Sutima, who had accompanied her to meet the ex-lover, promptly filed a complaint with the Tamot Police Station, implicating 59-year-old Mudtafa as the prime suspect in the attack.

According to Sutima, the meeting was arranged to resolve a dispute over car ownership following the breakup between Malee and Mudtafa. The plan was for both women to meet Mudtafa, who then took them to his relative’s home near the reservoir. While Sutima was distracted by a meal with the relatives, Mudtafa led Malee to another location without informing her friend.

Realizing something was amiss, Sutima noticed blood on Mudtafa's vehicle when he returned alone, prompting her to seek assistance from locals. Around the same time, a witness named Janya reported seeing Mudtafa at the reservoir striking something with a rock, with blood on his face, which terrified her enough to alert her husband.

Mudtafa was eventually apprehended and confessed to killing Malee. He revealed a long-standing but complicated relationship with Malee, spanning over 20 years despite being married to another woman, Sor. Mudtafa claimed their meeting revolved around settling car ownership issues that escalated when Malee demanded 50,000 baht. He alleged that Malee bit him and fled, which enraged him to the point of attacking her with a rock. Expressing remorse, he stated he would have acted differently if given the chance.

However, police are skeptical of Mudtafa’s narration, particularly due to the circumstances in which Malee was found, suggesting an attempted sexual assault. An autopsy is underway to clarify the details surrounding her death.

Meanwhile, Mudtafa’s wife, Sor, claimed she was aware of her husband's past relationship with Malee but was under the impression it had ended years ago. Mudtafa now faces initial charges of intentional murder, carrying severe penalties including death or imprisonment. The investigation continues, with additional charges pending based on autopsy results.

You HAD a chance and you DIDN'T act differently. Rather, you chased after her with malignant intent and beat her to death with a rock.
