A foreign couple driving a grey BMW found themselves in legal trouble after a reckless crash in Phang Nga province, which involved a road construction vehicle and a local's car. The incident took place on the morning of May 26 near the Khok Kloi Bus Terminal on the Khok Kloi–Phuket Road.

Eyewitnesses reported that the couple appeared intoxicated and attempted to flee the accident scene. However, quick-thinking bystanders managed to prevent their escape and alerted local authorities.

Upon arrival, five police officers began their investigation into the collision, which was suspected to have been caused by drink driving. During the inquiry, the male driver allegedly attempted to bribe the police with 10,000 baht to avoid legal repercussions. The officers refused the bribery offer and took the couple to the Khok Kloi Police Station for further processing.

The extent of damage to the property involved—the construction vehicle and a local’s car—was not detailed in the initial report. Police have yet to confirm the specific legal charges or disclose the driver's blood alcohol level, but potential consequences loom large for the driver.

Under Section 78 of the Land Transport Act, the driver could face charges for causing damage to another person's property while driving. This could result in a penalty of up to three months' imprisonment, a fine between 2,000 and 10,000 baht, or both.

Should evidence of alcohol consumption be validated, the driver would also confront additional charges for driving under the influence, as stipulated in Section 43(2) of the Land Transport Act. This carries more serious ramifications, with penalties reaching up to one year’s imprisonment, fines ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 baht, or both.

This incident underscores the severe consequences of drink driving and attempts to corrupt law enforcement, serving as a stark reminder of the importance of legal compliance and road safety.
