Who loves Bangkok?

My office was in Central Bangkok, so I lived for 11 years in lower Sukhumvit.  I liked it for the malls, interesting bars, live music venues, restaurants, parks, coffee shops,  Sunday Brunch in nice hotels and the public transport.

 

Hated the traffic and the pollution .... had a constant dry cough for years.

 

But all other cities in Thailand are very second rate compared to Bangkok, so I still have a small condo in Bangkok (but not in the centre now), and also have a house near the sea - to get the best of both worlds.

 

I also like the countryside, but wouldn't want to cut all ties with the big city.

The city proper is not appetising by any means, but get out into the surrounding countryside on a bicycle, into the hills and mountains, and it's gorgeous.

Bangkok, the city of T-junctions. Bangkok is, by my knowledge, the worst planned city in the world. Just have a look to the street grid, and compare that with cities sin Asia and Africa. There is a reason traffic is so bad.

The launch point for far more tourist spots than Chiang Mai.

Bangkok is still much more pleasant than for example Jakarta
