10/6/25 Hello , I'm wondering if there are any recents reports on obtaining a DTV for Thai Language Ed. in Bangkok, from US LA consulate, (which is my required consulate to use, here in the US) ?

1) What if I just paid for 2 months of education at my school of choice, and left the country after 2 months, for the remainder of the year?

2) say I came back the following year, would I then need to be enrolled in advance at the language school?

3) would I need to not return for 1 year? to then re-entry ?  sorry, if these are basic questions.

I'll try to help....

I think you need to CANCEL your Ed visa before leaving.  Remember to do that.

Not sure why you would need an ED visa for only two months.   Also not sure if ED and Digital Visa are mixed....ask about that.

Ed visa can now be given IN country, yes, In Thailand.  costs more.  around 15,000 baht for the "convenience" and then 1900 every three months.

you get 60 days then pay 1900 for another 30.....I'm pretty sure you can study on just a stamp.

nope, can enroll in country.     Can start classes immediately.   There's a few weeks wait for the letter from MOE, but that's for the visa.  Not sure that's what you really need.

take my answers with a grain of salt... confirm.

so, I live in the US, I've no ED visa, nor seeking one. Possibly Seeking the DTV based on studying Thai

but, will only be visiting for 2 months , how best would it be to do this ?

hmm, did things change and it is no longer required to prove that one is doing actual eductation, but instead must now have 500k THB when applying in Thai Bank only, no other requirements?

99% of Thai embassies will not issue a DTV for studying Thai language. They will tell you to get an education visa instead. I don't know Muay Thai was on the original MFA infographic as a soft power and Thai language was not, but it seems most embassies are following that guidance.

If you are only coming here for 2 months just come in free stamp entry (visa exempt) for 60 days.

No sense jumping through the hoops to get a DTV, pay the 400 USD the visa costs or sign up forlanguage school classes you have no desire to attend.

actually, I've done many long stays before previous to the O-A changes, and might also consider a Non-O ; and try an extension, but I guess I'd have to stay for closer to 90 days?

I may only be in Thailand 2-3 months at a time , but with the current political environment, and what it might do to my insurance, I might like to have the EOS situation already set up to go , though, am not sure if my usual rental would suffice for BKK Chang Wattana EOS's

they won't provide the owners YellowBook or BlueBook, they might provide something signed by the Admininstrative Assistant only.

I rent in Bangkok and CW accept my rental contract and TM30.  Never been asked for owner ID/Tabien Baan, etc.

If rent contract is in your name.... You are the house master.

no owner Id/tabien baan required which is why they not ask for it.

Don't know what "current political environment" refers to.

In any even you suggest a stay of 2-3 months.

Why even bother with Non O extension.

Just obtain a Non O e-Visa to enter Thailand and be given a 90 day stamp. That's, it. No interaction with immigration at all.

Alternatively enter  visa exempt and receive 60 day stamp + obtain 30 day extension.

That would require a TM30. Simple.

so, the place I stay, isn't a long term lease, it's month to month, the owner, owns various buildings and rents out the individual rooms , I'm thinking 1 year extension of stay with re-entry visa, I can get a TM30 though.

its just a thought to have the backup of the visa, for myself its not a huge amount of money to not then need to think about Visas for long stays

and yes, I may lose my health care insurance , with Trump in charge,  though, it may be vague how and when it is done, right up until it happens

You would require 800k seasoned for 2 months in a Thai Bank account in your name only to obtain a 12 month extension.

So you apply for that in last 30 days of stamp from the Non O

Then ongoing financial requirements after extension granted.

Along with reentry permit.

Seems you don't have any clear intention re how long/often you wish to stay in Thailand.

yes, I'm aware of all that, I've a Thai account,

i mentioned politics because you did.

can I do the extension at 55 days or does it require it to be within 2 weeks for the end of say, a non-O

PS: I actually *do enjoy studying Thai and have a school from the past fwiw

Application for extension can be done up to 30 days prior to expiry.

45 days at some offices eg CW, CM, PHUKET.

I did not and it's irrelevant.

You can study Thai language without any visa related to that.

Your options are clear.

In a recently posted YouTube video on here with the Deputy Head of Immigration me mentions "courses" - thus it is open to interpretation.

After a quick read of recent topics and replies on Reddit I can assure you that many Embassies issue a DTV for language schools. London for one.
