A 59-year-old grocery shop owner was stabbed in broad daylight after refusing to process a ฿10 QR code payment due to store policy. The shocking incident occurred, at a small grocery store located near Denchai Condo in Bang Pu, Mueang district, Samut Prakan province.

 

The suspect, identified as Mr. Zen Tan Pai Mu, a 24-year-old man from Myanmar, was swiftly arrested by local police at a nearby workers’ camp shortly after the attack.

 

The victim, Ms. Prayad, recounted the terrifying ordeal and shared CCTV footage from the store to warn others. The footage clearly shows the suspect placing an item on the counter before suddenly lunging forward and stabbing her multiple times. Ms. Prayad bravely resisted, struggling with the attacker until she managed to flee and call the police.

 

According to Ms. Prayad, the altercation began when the man entered her shop and attempted to buy a bottle of Krating Daeng energy drink for ฿10 using a mobile QR payment. She explained that her store only accepts QR payments for purchases of ฿50 or more. He left the store but returned a short while later, attempting again with a bottle of drinking water and receiving the same explanation.

 

Shortly after, the man returned a third time wearing a face mask to hide his identity. He began placing several items, including white liquor and fabric softener, on the counter while pacing the store suspiciously. At one point, he entered the storage area, prompting Ms. Prayad to ask if she could help him find something.

 

When he returned to the counter, he pretended to prepare a QR payment on his phone. Suddenly, he drew a knife and launched a surprise attack, stabbing Ms. Prayad in the face and both wrists before fleeing the scene.

 

Though she was not seriously injured, Ms. Prayad admits to still being traumatised, especially due to the store’s proximity to a large migrant worker camp. She said the attacker had previously visited her store and had never raised suspicion.

 

She hopes her story serves as a warning to other small business owners to remain vigilant.
